I just want to warn everyone not to download SpyKiller2003. Apparently it's a 30-day trial. It's like Ad-Aware. Once it's finished it's lengthy scan it will let you clean up the parasites. But when you click 'Clean' it will just direct you to the site which forces you to buy the product ($50!) to remove the parasites. I can't see why there are such good comments on download.com, they must be fake. Also people have had problems with uninstalling and dodgy registry errors because of it. It's a scam, don't download it.

Now this is intersting. According to some of the comments on download.com, SpyBot 1.2 has "a Coreflow virus", and "severely damages the registry". And I thought it was meant to be a good program.
Enlighten me!

Another thing - the web-browser seems to be running uber-slow but Ad-Aware 6.0 has cleared up everything it's seen. I'm suspecting it's SpyWare but what can I use to get rid of it?

Spybot S&D is a great program, I don know where you are getting your information about that. I dont know about the others though - I dont really trust anti-spyware "companies" who try to sell you inferior products.

if you suspect there is spyware running on your machiene, just open up task manager, and look for unfamiliar processes. anything unusual that is useing up too much CPU time is probably adware or spyware. now that you know the name of the application, all you have to do is search for it and you can delete it.

I used this method to get rid of the adware that comes with the free version of DivX.

Yeah, those Geocities/AOL/Tripod/Dell/Gateway/etc. users must know a lot of what they're talking about, be sure to listen to exactly what their opinion on computers is. cough

Ok, I can't find anything unusual on the task list (but I'm not familiar with a lot of the processes on it). SpyBot has got rid of about 15-20 items yesterday but today it found 5 more. Is that significant?
My problem with Internet Explorer is that whenever I request a page from the address bar (or when I launch IE) it does really slow and the page loads after about 15-30 seconds (shouldn't with broadband). In this time the browser won't respond to anything, nor will other loaded browsers, but if I Alt+D I can do other things fine. But when I click on a link, it takes me there about normal speed it seems. Also, my ping is about the same as usual in internet games.
And one more thing - there's a problem with the MySQL at a site I visit regularly. I don't think it's their problem though. I don't know if it;s relevant, but I got that problem after I did a clearup with Ad-Aware 6.0 but even when I tried restoring the stuff I quarantined it still wouldn't work. Here is the error I got:
Warning: st 'opal.he.net' is blocked because of many connection errors. Unblock with 'mysqladmin flush-hosts' in /home/bigapple/public_html/imagevote/top10.php on line 32

Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: st 'opal.he.net' is blocked because of many connection errors. Unblock with 'mysqladmin flush-hosts' in /home/bigapple/public_html/imagevote/top10.php on line 32
Access denied for user: '@localhost' to database 'bigapple'
I'd appreciate it if you'd visit this site and tell me if you get past "Enter the gallery" without any errors.

I think this problem occured about a week ago, whereas the slow browser problem seems to have started yesterday.

Thanks in advance.

Well I'm using Mozilla/Mozilla Firebird now and it seems ok. The javascript isn't working in the forums (I don't think) but that can be disabled. As for the HTDM link, I think that the MySQL problem is on their side. Still like to know if it works with anyone else though.

You will accumulate a few cookies and stuff that SpyBot will find every day, unless you manually control cookies like me. It takes time, but eventually you won't have junk cluttering up your pc.

The MySQL stuff seems to be working, appears to have been a problem at the server end. But the funny thing is that IE is working now at full speed.

Maybe I should rename this thread "Sim's blog"
