This is just a guess.
It looks like the programs settings (somewhere, be it in a file or the registry, or the live reading from the card) has an invalid value, thus makes it impossible to initialize. In any case, usually removing the application, completley, and re-installing it will give it a fresh go.
But, that's usually a pain. However, as far as videocard drivers go (yes, video card control centers are part of the drivers you download) they don't release enough information to know how to fix the problem.
I'll give a look around when I get a moment for an initialization error.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I had some Catalyst error was well. I downloaded the new Catalyst from the ATI site or wherever and it never worked.
Until I figured donloading the new driver from my computer manufacturors' homepage. This still is a sort of Catalyst but a special one made only for my graphics adapter. Now it works.
Never try to be perfect - just try it and make the best out of it
