Lep, isn't there a way to establish dead, or inactive participants?

i mean really, when you have members like THIS bloating the member list to over 400, its sad.

i realize, there are members who never post, and never seem active, but visit often anyways... i am not counting those, but dead memberships.. there should be a way to single them out.. and dispose of them.

any clues?

I'd send them an email saying "please reply to keep your account active" maybe. But I delinatly (spelling?) agree. 400+ members and only one third are actively participating...

I just deleted all the people who haven't logged in (i.e. obviously have dodgy e-mails), I'll go through the people with no snarkmarks next.

Some users might just have a profile description and actually look around the site, but not bother to post or comment on the forums. It would be a bit unfair to delete their accounts when they might expect to use them in the future.

I doubt it's worth the effort. I assume inactive members take up a tiny bit of filespace in the database, but that's the only drawback I can think of.

for what its worth, to a point i agree with you SC, but on the other hand, i look at it as good site maintenance.. when a new person arrives, the first thing they do is rate the site on its style, and such, but part of it is its updates and activity.

if i were to join today, and saw 50% of the membership list as "0" across the charts, i would think "this loser, he has to keep all these people on, just to look bigger than he is"

snarkpit is not in dire straights enuff to warrant tactics to keep people coming.

hope that made sense..

I kind of assume that any free internet site has tons and tons of dead members registered, and I don't think I have ever made a judgement on a community based on that. I mean, if you do, I don't think there's a single community out there you would feel comfortable joining.
