I know this is something that looks like it's real, but what is it really about? Is it not possible normally?

Nice foolery. Yeah the 'aquarium effect' pops up in SDK forum posts pretty regularly, it's not something that can be done with a standard approach.

if you just use the normal water texture notting will show up behind a window.
thats why i used dx7water texture and corected the color and i put a func ilusion ontop of 2units thick with 1 unit into the water brush

Nice. Coincidentally I came across a tutorial for doing something like this last night.

Ah, this is a perfect work-around! really great idea! I've been meaning to design a cool underwater level, how awesome. -So you made your own custom water texture for the water? otherwise wouldn't you see two different surfaces? -one from the func_illusionary, and one from the top of the actual water brush? Still, this gives me a lot of fun ideas, I'd really like to try out now! -Thanks!
