Not too sure how they decided upon that version number but if you haven't seen the latest tech demo for the Unreal Engine yet you should check it out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wmJHwiGWQM

Mind you, that was running on an Intel i9 and 3 Geforce 580 GTX cards. ;)

I think it looks great though, and I wonder if a game is going to come out of this... would be quite cool!

Wow...

That pulled me out of lurking it was so impressive.
Now remember kids. Asking questions is a good way to get censored by the government.

Yeah, it's still Unreal Engine 3. The displacement mapping technique looks the same and there doesn't seem to be any enhanced particle system, which ... frankly should be there if it's their next engine. (CryEngine 3 has a beefed up one over CryEngine 2)

I'm still bugged they don't show this stuff with AA turned up higher. I can still see aliasing artifacts :\
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

And theres no AI or physics being calculated either to free up the cpu.

Personally, I don't see the appeal of showing something that requires a machine 1,000 times more powerful than the average Joe has. Shit, as big as my pc is, its a lawn more engine compared to a fully blown Hemi.

I just don't get it.

Showing that something can run in real-time period is the name of the game.

They're not going to release ANYTHING that has those requirements, they're just showing off recent R&D in the real-time space.

What you should take away from the video is that these things will be refined, and in a couple years, maybe 3, you'll see a game using this tech running on more modest hardware.

Don't be so naïve.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I don't see the appeal of living in Oregon either. They tend to breed self righteous assholes whom assume waaaayyy to much, but people live there every day. Perhaps the technology will finally root out these assholes and relegate them someplace out of country.

Now, before I was so rudely interrupted.. I don't see the appeal of showing this stuff. End of story.

do you mean that you personally aren't interested, not that you can't see why anybody would be interested?

Ah ok, that makes more sense. Maybe if it was a Source 2.0 engine demo you'd be interested? :p

I like what they've chosen to focus on, it's partly what gives the engine it's unique look. The lighting/shadows look top notch and I like the streaming capabilities of the Unreal engine, I think loading screens should really be a thing of the past.

Plus they're putting effort into soft body physics, it's been implemented to some degree since Unreal 3.5 so you should like it Crono. :p

Nah. I meant it exactly like I said. I don't see the appeal of jumping out of perfectly good airplanes either BUT I absolutely love spending time with my grand kids. AND I bet many of you cannot see that appeal... Yet.

I just don't see the appeal people place onto looking at video's of games no one will be able to play for years.. Kinda ruins it for me really knowing my massive pc won't be worth owl shit in so short a time. :(

[EDIT] I was laughing my ass off filling in my comment on your facebook post. Thinking of it still has me giggling.. Pong with two balls.. Whoohoo.

Yay for xenophobia.

I'm glad there's more softbody physics ... but I still want it to be all the physics interactions.

Looked up the term. Even with your broad spectrum thought processes it doesn't apply. For once I can definitely say "Adam you're wrong"

Man that felt good.. I have been waiting for freakin ever for you to be beyond a doubt mistaken.

Being an asshole has nothing to do what so ever with genetics.

What's ironic is, I have almost every race represented someplace in my gene pool. If not in my own body at the very least in my family tree as it stands today. :p

Look. I didn't do anything to provoke this bullshit from you, so knock it off.

What you posted originally was very naïve and short sighted, that's why I said, don't be naive. How that makes me an asshole, I have no idea.

And, to note, "Perhaps the technology will finally root out these assholes and relegate them someplace out of country" is a xenophobic statement, considering xenophobia is "a dislike and/or fear of that which is unknown or different from oneself" or "a fear of foreigners or strangers." Inferring that I, indirectly, should be deported because I explained something to you and suggested you were acting inexperienced shows that you think I should become a foreigner, whom you insinuate would be kept away from you and separate from your country altogether ... so how is that not xenophobic?

Just to clarify, naïve can mean, "lacking information" or "inexperienced", and your statement showed just that in relation to real-time games processing. Which is why I explained the purpose. If you're offended by that keep it to yourself, because it's not an insult.

I'd also going to point out that in this thread I've said nothing that could be taken as an attack toward you. However, you keep calling me an asshole ... indirectly of course ... which is a straight up insult, and an attack.

So, I'm asking you to knock it off.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.
