I am of course able to toggle lights on and off, but for some reason whenever I have a light that is off and I want to turn it on, it does not have its special appearance. It just turns on and looks like a normal light does.

For example if I have a light that is off that has a custom appearance of "strong pulse" when the light turns on it behaves as a regular light with default appearance and does not pulse.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

I don't think theres anything you can do - I too have noticed this when working with lights that you want to turn on and off. The HL engine (source as well) was never good with dynamic lighting.
