Does anyone know the best way to find leaks in Portal 2 maps? I don't have any now; just something good to know :)

I remember from HL1 when the map loads then you can insert /pointile in the console but in Portal 2 the map won't even load. And that command probably doesn't even exist in Portal 2.

Any ideas how to find leaks easily?

There's a button (Load pointfile... it's in one of the menu's) that loads the pointfile like you mentioned.

However, if you cannot even load the map, something is definitely wrong. I think I read about this in the SDK wiki. You'll probably have to edit the map in a text editor.

I'm sorry that I am not so specific, but try to search the net for this issue. I think it had something to do with unsupported characters in a targetname of an entity (but I may be wrong)

I'm afraid I cannot help you further on this, I know this issue sucks but the answer should be somewhere on the Hammer Editor wiki.

Good luck!

1) When you create box droppers for example how do you usually block all of the leaks? Do you have a special technique for it because I just try to fill in the spaces with boxes? And sometimes it can be hard since the dropper (or gel dispenser or anything else) is a cylinder?

2) On a similar question to this: What is the best way to create a border around the Portal 2 test exit door. (The circular one with the little guy on one of the sides) I found it very hard to fill make a border for it because of its shape. Thanks.

1) The instance for the box dropper has a square brush at the end, which makes it very easy to align it to the rest of the ceiling (I believe it appears yellow on the instance)

2) I remember my door already had a square brush around the door, but I can't remember if I used an instance or perhaps I copied the door from an example map.

I'm sorry for not being so helpful and that I'm short with my answers these days, but as I'm on vacation I don't have the possibility to check my map and see how I did it myself.

Next Friday or Saturday I'll probably be able to help you out some more

I dindn't even realize that. Thanks!

Actually I could just copy it too out of the mechanics sample map... don't know why I didn't think of that myself.

I have another question for you. (If you can remember without seeing it) Do you remember when making gel dispensers if you usually use an instance or do you use prop_static of a gel tube and the gel creating entity inside of it. (I tried the instance and I couldn't get it to work, but the entity does though)

No problem at all. As you can tell even your simple answers probably resolved each of my questions here. Thanks, and enjoy your vacation!

Thank you :)

About the question, I used an instance actually. If you follow the tutorial on that wiki I send earlier step by step (doesn't take that much time) then it should work properly. Hm you possibly have to trigger it though, so that it is activaed, but I'm not sure.

You can activate it using a trigger_once for example.

I actually did try a trigger_once and it didn't work, But at some point I'll try it again. I do have quite a bit more knowledge with Portal editing than I did a couple days ago. (Still a long way to go though, but it's a work in progress)
