I have played Fallout 3 about a dozen times. I almost always play such a good character that I could prolly stand in the Potomac in the game and purify it with my body.

The game allows one to play evil, but from the story line you invariably have to still do good acts to finish the game. Otherwise the brotherhood in the citidal won't open up the gates nor use the robot to complete the ending.

My question: If you could survive the act, could you play pure evil or would the AI balk?
I mean, just flat out kill everything. The brotherhood, the outcasts, everything?

Has anyone ever tried to do such?

I always felt the to play an evil character in the game was deprived because you still have to do some good things. The game wasn't setup with more than one ending.

Thoughts???

It requires a taste I suppose. In my opinion it is one of the best games ever created as far as depth and size, not to mention replayability.

About my only complaint, and this holds true for all RPG's, is that the "Kill, collect loot, sell, repeat" Gets old but I dunno if it is even possible to have characters who go from level zero to level "whatever" can do so any other way.

You have to get experience, somehow. shrugs

Oh, it's a time thing, not a taste thing. I plan on finishing it. (My video game backlog is massive.)

There's probably other more advanced systems you could create while still having an RPG style leveling experience. I've always felt a nondescript system where you don't specifically choose your stats, but it's just whatever you're actually doing would make more sense. Then the actual game could work like any other action or action adventure style game where the more you do something the more proficient your character becomes.

Borderlands 1 had something like this in weapon proficiency. You leveled and whatever weapon you had while gaining experience, that class of weapon gained experience also until you leveled up your proficiency. The second game axed this in favor of badass tokens where you manually decide which stats you want altered :\

I do think games need to move forward in some ways... sort of evolve on some of these ideas. New coats of paint aren't going to last forever, and the cracks are already showing (and have been for years).

Stalker kinda sorta strayed from the beaten path in RPG.

I assume, that they assumed, that since you were already a survivor that you had skills already. They took the path that you needed parts and equipment upgrades and since you couldn't pack it all in, you found them and moved up that way.

IMO, it was the better way but it would also get old if every new RPG assumed you were mighty already.

I have my fingers crossed that the new stalker continues the quality of clear sky. The last game was sorely lacking and the team that did the 1st 2, did a better job than the last team.

About the only thing I can say about the last game was the quality of the visuals were better, but considering they had 3 chances, it was bound to be an improvement over the 1st game visually.

Spoiler.. Don't read if you are a

purist!!

Fallout 3 has 5 expansions, or more precisely, I have 5 expansions. There might be more but I haven't heard of any.

I have 2 suggestions. Suggestion 2 depends on what you do about suggestion 1.
I suggest you play it pure, without the expansions 1st.

Assuming you scrap that idea, and have the 5 expansions, only turn on (activate) Broken steel. It doesn't harm the purity much.

Next play the Anchorage expansion. Assuming you remembered to save at the doorway out of vault 101, you can alter your name and stats and you avoid the tedium of playing the baby part again.

Activate Anchorage as soon as you think you can survive. At the end, you end up with some unique items (I won't spoil it by naming them)
The items, or some of them, take no damage. Neither from use nor battle.

The other 3 expansions are just more/less filler campaigns. They are well done but...

I have all the expansions except Mothership Zeta, but none are installed. I figured I'd install them after I finish the game. (which is what I usually do) I only started the game earlier their year anyway ... so it's not really that complicated or pertinent of an issue. And I usually play this stuff for story and what-not. I really don't care about my specific character.

The next Stalker isn't going to be like the first ones based on teams because only the first game was made by that team. That team left the studio and started a new studio and made Metro 2033. Their next game is Metro Last Light.

I got Fallout 3, New Vegas, Oblivion, Skyrim, Stalker, and Metro 2033 ALL in my backlog. (amongst hundreds of other games)

I'm curious what people's backlogs are like here ... it's something that gets discussed with some regularity in most gaming sites ... but not here ... hmm.

This ungodly powerful (G.E.C.K.-crafted) weapon is called : The Experimental MIRV The Fatman Ultra !

It's a highly modified Fatman, made by someone I forgot, downloaded on Fallout3nexus [link] , but that disappeared a while ago... I still have a copy, by the way

EDIT #2 13/12/09 : I have found, after a bit of search, another website where the guy posted his mod...
If you want it, go there : [link] (NOW with new variants of the Fatman Ultra)

EDIT : Removed the HUD, using Image Mender. Hopefully it's good.
