And this is better, how? Search engines still in general have a long way to go- I for one would like to see some kind of 'word order' search, so that if you search for "big cheese monkey" it looks for pages with the words in that order, rather than ones with ".. cheese. The monkey was big" or whatever in it. And better context search, though that's probably something for future HTML standards.

I like the cut-down looks, it's just easier to navigate and such. I prefer to focus on what I'm searching on not searching for the search of what I'm searching.

I rarely visit a search engine ... just search through the browser and the results are what I see :smile: (I'm not talking about the google toolbar crap)

You fool! Google does that. Search for "Big Cheese Monkey" in inverted commas and it looks for the phrase!

I think he means more of when searching for "Big cheese Monkey" to return results saying "The big cow stole the cheese from the monkey." since it's the same ORDER, but not immediatly next to each other.

The problem with this sort of searching comes into play when the engine comes across another instance of the same word- would you rather it check for the second one or the first one? Assumedly it would just skip the second one, but what if THAT was the one in the context you wanted? THE HORREERR.

Yes, it would skip the 2^nd one. If you wanted it in that other context, presumably you'd run a different search? :razz:

Maybe a search engine should allow grep-style syntax on searches, that would simplify things for people who want more control on their searches.
