You made his hair blue in the process BC. I know the saturation tool is really easy to use in PS, but man ... come on.

Spartan, have you 'fixed' the issue yet? or Understood whats going on with hammer (and the map issue in general)?

Honestly answer me why in gods name are you trying to open a .map in Hammer for any reason other than attempting to salvage a long lost map?

My compiled maps get placed into the Hammer/maps folder. Then I put the BSP into the proper folder. Before when it wasn't generating a BSP I had Hammer setup so that it would place the compiled maps into the SteamApps/useraccount/DayofDefeat/dod/maps folder.

And yes I did a complete HD seach of before for the BSP and it never came up with anything.

I downloaded Hammer 3.5 beta but I still can't see the MAP files. What the f**k is wrong.

Dude, just use RMFs for working with a map in Hammer.
If you use a front end compiler interface, just export it to a map before you compile, if not, who cares? Hammer exports it already.

Hammer has issues with .map files, most people in this thread have pointed that out .... so ... take a hint and try using RMFs (that way you can use vizgroups too)

What version was he using to begin with?

3.4, but it doesn't matter. They created the 'rmf' format specifically for Hammer, because there were things they couldn't do with the 'map' format in the editor (which, I believe is the same format at Quake 1 maps). So, even though the compilers require the map file, Its a much safer bet to use RMFs while using Hammer.

He has got a specific reason for wanting to open the map file. I don't want to go digging to the thread to find it, but he previously stated that he is using the .map format to check for brushes which are not aligned to the grid.

I don't have anything else to offer to this topic. My advice to you Spartan, is to simply be careful in construction so that you don't have verticies off-grid to begin with.

I use RMFs to work in and MAPs to check for errors. That is all nothing more nothing less. It was really pissing me off being asked 10 times in a row if I use RMFs to map.

You can check for errors int he rmf too. I myself only use the map file when the rmf decides to be a bastard and become corrupt (As what happened to my G-Man Death 4th map minutes ago). It's no fun to redo the vis groups.

And don't say you don't use vis groups!

I can't find the specific reference, but I believe the point is that off-grid brushes show up as invalid in the .map whereas they would be perfectly valid in the .rmf.

Spartan has a viable reason for wanting to use the .map file. if you aren't trying to solve that problem, don't post.
