A bit sciency, saw this on the BBC news program earlier -

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3982273.stm#

check out that video, truly spectacular stuff - made even more funky by
the fact it erupted from underneath a glacier. on the downside, it
looks like the ash is heading for Norway, and possibly Scotland.

Sounds a bit stupid, but I really would like to witness a volcanic
eruption (from a safe distance/or in uber cool anti volcano bunker)
with my own eyes. fantastic, if somewhat destructive things.

Time to dig out the umbrella, fishy

footnote: this story, however, is just odd - 130 years?!?

I was out fishing in the rain the day after chernobyl blew up. They say it didn't affect people, but they slaughtered thousands of sheep. :/

Heh, it's guy fawkes night tomorrow, so there should be plenty of soot anyways.

I think the mountain, more or less, is just re-building it's top.

As long as the gasses don't stop coming out from the crater it should be fine.

More doom and gloom from fishy, I know, but from what I've just read, the past 4,000 years have been the most active of St Helens 50,000 year history.

And if it is only rebuilding its top, isn't that a bad thing? Tops of volcanos aren't normally made from loose ash and grit. More by rock/magma eruptions, which my very limited knowlege of the subject would lead me to believe is a highly probable end result of the huge blister that's rapidly forming in the crater right now.

Maybe we could find some Taiwanese dude to convert it to Christianity.
