I read somewhere that a limited edition of softimage was going to be
included in the SDK for HL2 stuff specifically. Does anyone know about
this or can confirm if this is the case? I just can't remember and
don't wanna get my hopes up too high.

It was released ages ago, but IMO, isn't very friendly.

Like spending hours on the tut that shows you how to set up custom toolbars to clone objects. Nothing simple like ctrl+d to duplicate your selection and dragging it to somewhere else. Not for XSI, oh no, you need to make tools like this yourself from various menus. I followed it carefully, taking my time to soak in as much as I could, only to find out at the end of it, the free version doesn't let you save anything. No setting, workspace layout, custom anythings,........

That pissed me off enough not to have opened it since.

And this thing only works well on resolutions higher than 1024*

i'd also recommend a duel screen setup, so that you can use xsi one and have the tuts on the other. trying to have them both on the same screen would be a nightmare.

I can't run the damned thing in anything less than the highest resolution available on my PC, which is 1280x1024. The labels are so tiny I can't read them!

Bring back milkshape3D I say.

So, what about 3dsmax for free? or really really cheap? I've done a lot in that.

Well, there's gmax...bound to be someone making an exporty script for that thing, right? Or at least after the full SDK comes out.
