Ah yes, another one of Gwils "crazy world" topics, back, even more bizarre than usual.

Today, we have a FPS game hitting the headlines, for all the wrong
reasons - ie, you play the part of Lee Harvey Oswald and assassinate
John Kennedy in Dallas, from the book despository. Strange, to say the
least.

http://www.jfkreloaded.net/

Good way to educate children about history - or is it just cashing in with controversy?

I think it's a bit disrespectful, but I don't have a problem with it.
I'm sure there'll be plenty of people needlessly getting their panties
in a twist over it.

I dread to think what the add on packs will be - "JFK - Finish The Job"
You play Jack Ruby and later on the Warren Commision to cover up the
messiest and most dubious assassination ever on record.

Or perhaps you could play John Wilkes Booth, or the assassins of the other 2/3 presidents who suffered such a fate.

Hell, theres potential for a whole game based around famous
assassinations. I think that would be pushing those boundaries, though.

Either way I don't have a problem with it either, aside from $9.99
price tag to fire the bullets. How lame. The only saving grace is the
person closest to Oswalds shots picks up a huge pot to recognise their
historic loyalty to the autopsy.

Like I say, the whole thing is just plain weird

Assasinaton of hitler? The tag-line could be:

"Get him, before he get's himself" ?

It's supposed to be educating people, not rewriting history

After my initial suggestion I realised I couldn't think of many people
who had been assassinated, so its a damp squib. Bah, so much
entertainment down the drain.

It'd be a little more educational if you were EVERY presidential assassin (or attemptive assassin) in history.

How can you make a game that simply involves trying to snipe someone, once? Obviously this is just a sad publicity stunt from a talentless games developing team :/

Lep: It's not supposed to be just shooting him, you're supposed to try to shoot him in the right spots and in the right sequence. At least that's what my newspaper said this morning. I agree about its tactlessness, though.

Hugh, dude, you use, commas, way too much,.,,,.

Some of your paragraphs can be combined (Such as the first three).

You also need to define what you mean by "Media".
The first (should be) paragraph states:

The Media saw his journal, saw videogames and music and blamed the attack on that media. But was media responsable?

That's not what you meant to say, I'm sure. But, if you simplify the sentences, that's what your paper is saying. Just thought you might want to do something about that.
Maybe, you should refer to News Media as "Media" and entertainment media as "Medium" and use it like:

NOTE: This should not be a new paragraph, you're not starting a new topic, you're even referencing the last sentence.

"Harris? journal carries passages mentioning bands and video games that he liked, the news media quickly assigned responsability of the events on the video game and music mediums, because they are violent in nature. One of Harris' and Klebold's favorite bands, KMFDM, has many songs about violence against oppression, something the gunmen thought they experienced at Columbine."

(Note, some sort of identifier besides 'they' needs to be here, I put the gunmen as an example, their names would work if they weren't used in the sentence already)

Make sense? Just the way you've written some parts make it so the paper doesn't flow very smoothly.

i personally find it quite offensive....i remember when the man was killed, it was the fall of a king......or the closest we've come to it in this country......

it was a hellish period...

........maybe used as a tool for forensic analysis or training or such, but i dont see anyone but those who are a little of kilter trying to market this as a game....

and i'd tend to agree with Lep on this part (**groan... :heee: ) as it does smack of ploy of some type....

Don't the lyrics of KMFDM actively encourage armed uprisings and
rebellion? The very nature of their music does, anyhow (thats the
implication in some of the songs at least).

on the other side of the coin, or globe, or wherever, how many people go to sleep at night dreaming of killing a US president?

the amount of 'fun' to be had in a game like this would be inversely proportional to the complaints about its morality. more fun=less complaints, sucky gameplay=lets take the moral high ground on this one.

i doubt that many 'car-jacked at gunpoint' victims will be rushing out for the next installment of GTA.

if a games gameplay sucks then fair enough. but to judge a games morality is a bit iffy, considering that every one here has games that they love, with aspects just as morally questionable.

Well put. Who made the game anyways. JFK was a great president and the creators can say that they made this game for historical education but behind the curtains it's just a sinical game for money and 15 minutes of gaming fame.

JFK switched around and adding an "S" is KFS, then that switched around and adding a "C" is KFC. Coincidence? I think not.

i know i may get into hot water for saying this but, how are we supposed to expect our children to differentiate between fiction and reality, when we cannot do it ourselves?

any game based on real events is still only a game. i have s**tloads more respect and heartfelt sentiments over the guys who fought and died in WW1 and WW2, but we frag games based on those actions daily. i love fallout, but would never love nuclear holocaust, yet japan suffered such a fate, should we boycott the game?

i think we should stand on our morals and either say games are games and as such should not matter, or we should say that games cause children to do evil.

we cannot mix and match our thinking on things just because its about an important figure.

you know, i bet money that some religious sects get pissed royal because we make maps that resemble holy sites and we frag in them.. kinda makes you think, are we selfishly arrogant, or just selective???

i don't disagree with your sentiments. i just meant that more people would be prepared to overlook the fact that the game is an afront to a great americans memory, if it had superior gameplay.

I just had a bit of a thought...I am not really offended by this game,
although I can clearly see why people are. The thing that offends me
is: games like these come along and cause public outcrys that 'video
games are useless an violent'. Suddenly you have Joe Libermen giving
speechs on 'how to ban america from these tools of hatred' and before
you know it were all outside exercising. One person can f**k over
millions if hes got the smarts...Or in this case, a sevre case of
brain-damage.
