Hey there guys first post on this board so and a newbie to modeling with Hammer so bare with me if this is a stupid question

Anyways what i am trying to do is just model a street... but the street is irrelevant.

My problem is...Is there anyway to align the nodes or vertexes of an angled brush with another one? Also note that the nodes/vertex do not line up on the grid?

Rotating does tend to screw up alignment, and its pretty hard to get it
sorted. The way I tend to do it is, rather than rotating the object,
just vertex manipulate it into the correct location and alignment. This
way you can ensure all the vertices are set on the grid and meet other
surrounding objects neatly. If you stick to 15 degree rotations it
should be easy enough to use vertex manipulation to do this
pseudo-rotation.

Ya i kinda figured that out just now... still dont like the idea of rotating an object then having to line up the vertices to the grid to be able to line up another objects vertices to it.... but if i gotta do it that way then I gotta do it that way.... thanks for the help!!

Actually - if you want to be a serious mapper - you could just as well
start working on vertex manipulation as soon as you feel up to it. It
will become one of the most important tools you have. When you get the
hang of it it becomes second nature and you will wonder how you ever
got along without it ... Be aware however, that it is very easy to
construct brushes with illegal shapes when moving those vertices around
  • concave brushes is a big no no ...
Some tips:

You can either set the rotations to 15 degrees in options, or you can
hold down shift while rotating to rotate 15 degrees at a time - should
minimize the unalignment of vertices - obviously if you have more
complex brushes some vertices might not be aligned ...

If a brush is not aligned to the grid hit ctrl+b to snap it back to the grid

You are not modelling with Hammer - you are mapping. Modelling is
something different - allthough the two are becoming more and more
intertwined with newer 3D engines ...

Good luck on the mapping!

If you angle the brush, note you'll also have to chage the scale as well as the rotation to line textures up!

You might be able to use overlays actually, as they have that special UV co-ordinate system:
