crono, if you haven't noticed, your positions on movies is not paramount (no pun intended) .

if you were to tally the times you liked a movie that someone else did, you might be up to 5 or 10.

/runs
You have to look at all aspects though.
I've talked about several movies I liked which I also said were
terrible movies. But overall what most people have listed in this
thread is type cast up the ass (I did that a little bit with CW). I
mean seriously. f**k Morgan Freeman, he really isn't that great of an
actor. He's good at playing the same character he ALWAYS plays. And
he's good at that character, it doesn't mean he's a good actor. The
best bet would probably be Robert Guillaume, as monqui suggested.
Have no idea what his acting ability is, but it's far above most
actors. You can tell just from his voice acting.

And Orph, you
like the s**ttiest movies ever  Species 3 ?Goddammit.

If I were in charge of the movie I'd use actors who noone knows, or are
relatively unknown. People become too focused on the actors these days
and not the character, even if it's a good performance it's still "the
actor". Although, everyone knows Christopher Walken should be the
G-Man, now that would earn my money.

I know.

Gorb, I agree, it
should be unknowns mostly. But, I honestly think Edward Norton would
be good at Gordon, not because it's him playing the part, but because
he's a convincing and natural actor. I'm not really going off of
looks either, since anyone (as long as they can act the part) can
pull off the look. I just mentioned 25th hour and such to show that
he can look the part as well.

Oh and, Christopher Walken is
pretty frail as it is.

There is nothing wrong with Ben
Stiller, Orph. You seem to have some weird fixation on hating him
with little evidence.

OK, are you suggestion that in order for me to brand him incompetent that i either have to have a working knowledge of acting, or know Mr. stiller personally?

afterall, i have see just about every film he has made, and as such, i was under the impression that, that was all it took to voice an opinion on a movie, since you set the standards on opinionated expression of movie quality. i was also under the impression that you have only "viewed" movies as well, i did not catch the part where you took direction lessons 101 :heee:

other than watching his movies what else do i need to to qualify a well versed opinion of his abilities?

bottomline, he stinks.. he is riding the wave that his mom and dad laid down for him. i am not saying that they are world class actors either, but they do very well within their character classes.. they do mom and pop films very well indeed.
please explain how i can gain enough esteem to know his place in the acting world.

you've got a point. The actors don't have to be COMPLETE unknowns, I loved the casting for LOTR. I know LOADS of ppl who didn't even KNOW about Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Sean Bean, or Christopher Lee. They all are GREAT actors, but most ppl forgot about Sean Astin after Goonies We have seen neither hide nor hair of Elijah since Radio Flyer or The Good Son, All of the other actors never really play the MAIN parts but are brilliant all the same. AND i don't think that Christopher walken can be creepy enough for the G-man role. He is too loud and jerky to be the hissing, soft-talking, smirking G-man.

Yeah, I totally agree with that. I went to see Oceans 12 the other night, and one of the previews before the movie starred Brad Pitt. I really think that exemplifies what you're talking about. Brad Pitt in Oceans 12 was a completely different person from the guy in whatever movie was being plugged. And it's slight, but still jarring. It's almost like they're breaking the fourth wall in a sense. They stop being people in a situation, and start being people acting in a situation, which pretty much kills the whole feel of the movie. Mabye I'm just weird though.

I don't think that Charlie Sheen would make a good Dr Freeman. There, are you satisfied?

As for the DooM movie, I heard it was going to be on the moon, not on Mars, and there would be aliens, not hellspawn. This doesn't make sense because in the computer game you have to literally go to hell and back to stop the invasion. With the aliens they'd have to completely rewrite the whole storyline, and then it wouldn't be DooM... I think people who try to make movies out of computer games are all insane.

Sorry to inform you,

but I read in an issue of PCGame, an article on games to movies, that...

The rights to make a movie based on Half-Life may have already been purchased. I've forgotten which issue so don't ask. For the UK version, though, I don't know if it is in that issue.

I would certainly enjoy seeing Edward Norton as Freeman, I like his
style and he has that satirical and cynical feel to his performances
which is kind of the tone I get when playing HL.
