Why do you need this? You can't just set up a 3d skybox with the black texture painted inside it?

By sun...you just mean the bright spot in the sky, right? Do you have an env_sun, or just a light_environment?

i would like to know how to make skybox textures, although it seems like it would be tough.

Um...wouldn't it just be an issue of making the textures correctly (as in, seamless) and naming them correctly?

DOH. I was messing around with this and while have black painted on the inside of a 3d skybox does work for most cases, there's one time it doesn't.
Water.
Firstly, I think when you're looking down in the water you can see the reflection of the skybox, instead of the black. Second, when looking up from underwater, you can definitely see the normal skybox instead of the black. Seems like a bug to me...using the normal skybox instead of the 3d skybox when underwater?
For now, let's just hope you won't be using too much water in space...

do you have and env_cubemap's in your map? Water as well at all
other things will reflect a default sky if there is no cube map
information.

Yes I do but I'll double-check to make sure I ran a build on them
edit: Ok, yes, the top of the water reflects the true black background but from below the water it still uses the skybox (and not the 3d skybox). Probably because this is diffraction instead of reflection, but this still isn't right. Definitely set up the cubemaps right, too (tied them to the water face, ran buildcubemaps).
