If I were going to add two things to your map, they would be:

Curves. The first shot especially is very blocky. You could
certainly make it a lot more interesting. Trim (border textures)
would probably look nice too.

More interesting lighting. Experiment with the point_spotlight
entity especially, it gives off a beam of volumeric ecstacy.

Looks pretty good for the most part, especially for a "first" map.

Screen 1:

<BLOCKQUOTE dir=ltr style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px">
This is kind of a strangely designed warehouse. The only buildings I've ever seen like it are meant for storing sand and gravel. Maybe add some bays filled with such?

The building in the background just seems kind of boring. I'm not sure what you might do to improve it though.

Tone down the environment light and add some more artificial sources. That would help spices things up a bit in this section.
Screen 2:

<BLOCKQUOTE dir=ltr style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px">
Move those lightglow(s) a bit closer to the lamps. At the moment they are just hanging out there and look kind of funny.

WTF are those hinging things? I know the physics engine is cool, but do something with it that actually makes some sense.

Can you think of something other than creates for detail? they are pretty boring.

Add some more ceiling detail. Vents, pipes, beams... whatever. It's just really flat at the moment.
Screen 3:

<BLOCKQUOTE dir=ltr style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px">
Can't say much from this screen. Maybe make those pillars more interesting. either vary the shape, or use a better more detailed texture.
Cheers man. This is the very best attitude you can have coming into this community. Our feedback is often harsh, but if you stick around it pays off big time. Welcome. :smile:

Is that train a model? It looks too good to be brush based but im having some ideas with physics also and was wondering if you could tell me

How do you make those hanging things, Models?

and how can i make a light hanging off the ceiling which moves around if you shoot or touch it!

to tracer bullet,

thx dude love the feedback. ill try to eliminate the warehouse feel. its supposed to be a train station. lol, o well back to work.

btw

screen 1: the building in the backround is screen 2.

screen 2: if you turn 180 its screen 3. (o yeah and the hanging physics are moving)

screen 3: to the right is screen 1.

to habboi,

that train is a model. and uhmm theres a sample file on sdkcontentmaps called sdk_phys_lengthconstraint.vmx. it has a hanging physbox. and sorry dude im still new i dun know how to do the hanging light which moves around. jus ask in the half-life2 editing forum.

this jus in... point_spotlight chopped my frame rate. any alternatives?
