I cannot understand what you're trying to describe. What do you
mean by "hollow"? Why can't you add texture or light to your
map? The entity list is empty? Do you get an error
message? Are there no texture listed in the texture browser?
You have to be more clear when you describe your problem. A screenshot would be tremendously helpful.

Are you sure you are on the 3D textured view mode? By default it may
well start on 3D wireframe, which could be what you mean by "hollow" I
guess. Try clicking the view title bit that says "camera" and select
"3D textured" from the drop down list.

Thanks. Yes it was in wireframe mode. I am going to hide from the forums for awhile now...

Lucky you found this forum to help you, I struggled for days trying to figure out wtf was going on and why I couldn't see the textures in 3d view. Then I was directed here and lo and behold it became obvious.
