In my travels, one thing sticks out more than any other. People talk funny.

Accents vary from place to place, and most times no one but a stranger seems to notice. So, what I want to do is this. Since no one wants to put their own voice on line for ridicule, I suggest we all post something else we have in common. RADIO stations.

Look around your areas, and post a link to live broadcasting. One that has a fair representation of the accents used around your home.

Now, I will post one myself.. I fully expect you to disregard the music content as most of you wouldn't know good music if it bit you on the ass. Listen to the commercials and whatnot. It will clue you in on mannerisms and colloquialisms.

A local rock station based in Little Rock ,Arkansas.

click on the live broadcast link.. if you have the proper player installed you should be ok.. PLEASE NOTE, that if you are like me and have pop-up blockers installed, you will need to hold down the "crtl" key on your keyboard as you click the live link to get the station to broadcast properly.

Thanx in advance to those whom participate.

Ram FM, the local radio for Derbyshire has a Scottish DJ, an Australian DJ and one who doesn't have a Derby accent at all

Bit moot really.

Want to know why western music is so popular here? Try this :

http://www.kannadaaudio.net/

There's a live winamp feed which runs well. They mostly play
devotionals (er, something like church hymns I suppose. I don't think
there's any western equivalent) in Kannada (local language). Don't
blame me for any damage to your ears/sanity.

You could try Peak 107FM for the Chesterfield accent, but I haven't listened to it for ages so I can't say whether any of the DJs are from the area. I'm guessing my accent is going to be pretty similar to Gwil's too.

McCartney is from Liverpool... very different accent to most of the UK, apart from them "grim up north" places (eg Manchester!)

Peak 107 doesn't have a web version, but there was an mp3 of a news snippet which might give you an idea of the accent round these here parts  True, it's a woman but it's the best I can do until I find which box I packed my microphone in during the move...

http://twgnewsdesk.thewebmonkey.net/audio/1996.mp3

Not the most cheerful of news reports either

although i don't doubt you, its rather hard to contemplate an appreciable difference in dialect with so small an island as yours.. proximity would blur the accents.

the states has vast tracts where almost no one lives, and is many times the size as your home. we have multiple accents, but if you remove all of them that stem from other countries, i imaging we only have a few, and these differ due to their distances.
anywho's I'll take your word that your northern comrades speak like McCartney

This is the live stream from my campus radio station in Loughborough. LCR

It'll sound like the stations from around Derby and Nottingham area, if that helps you place it better.
