While good for general space absorbition there have been other uses found for the Mac
some of these included, but are not limited to:
-Toilet
-Fishbowl
-Weapons of Mass Dysfunction (WMDs)
-Gift for the Pope (in which case you're going to hell)
-Nuclear Storage container
-Munitions container
-Tank "hedgehogs" (they block roads if you got enough of 'em)
-Void of Non-Hammer editing (in which
case they must be cast over a fire while chanting the sacraed code of
VALVe)
-And many many more...!
*NOTE: Please don't take any offense to this, this is a joke, and yes
while I do hate them, I like them for the elderly, and those who are
just not gifted with computers....my German grandfather got one, and he
can actually use it. But when it comes to complex things, and games
(:-)) leave it to the PCs, which reduce waste output by allowing you to
upgrade them and other stuff....anyway feel free to add comments, or
your own personal uses. (And if you've seen Futurama "I, Robot" (I
think that's what it's called, you know what I mean ;-)).

You all laugh at MACs, but in retrospect they own PCs every day of the
year. They are far more powerful (HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE POWER OF A
G5?! I guess not do to your lack of inteligence in this post), their
operating system is far less buggy/complex/idiotic as windows is (ask
crono he will tell you). My only problem is they don't play games/run
hammer. If Macs did then i switch in a heart beat
So before you go making fun of MACs just remeber: They are what make
those great special effects you see in the movies, and can own any
computer out there.

Macs have amazing hardware. And OSX is a solid OS, much better then Windows for sure.
Saying they don't run anything complex is bulls**t, by the way (and no I'm not offended). They're basically User friendly Unix machines with X, now explain to me how being a real root to your system is not powerful.
The program compatibility issue is actually to be pushed off on Microsoft. Everyone has everything backwards. MS is the ones who made their own standard which is worse then the international standard (this mostly goes for games and such)
DirectX is the biggest piece of s**t on Earth. And I do mean THE BIGGEST.
I just wont start. the i-series is the only one that deserves ridicule of any kind taking that the G series is fully upgradeable.
People really need to start understanding programming standards and different architectures
(Note* I heard rumors that someone got OSX running on an X86 machine, if anyone is interested  )
Also, Omega, most movie effects aren't usually done on common systems that you or I could buy.
You want things to take less then 6 months to render, right?

Ahh yes the wonderful Mac-bashing thread from people who've probably
never used one before. Always seems obvious to me that gamers bash Macs
to try and gain social status among other gamers because they feel it's
fashionable to do so. The same applies with Microsoft bashers and a
fair chunk of Linux users. The Mac bashers arguments seem to be limited
to "LOLOLOL Mac0rz sux0rz LOL!", the Microsoft bashers arguments seem
to be limited to "LOLOLOL MICRO$haft LOL!" and a fair few Linux users
are constantly saying "LOLOLOLOL I R USIN TEH LINUX I R TEH
COOOOOLL!!!", all the while making things 10x as difficult as they need
to be.
I'm not saying that all the arguments are founded - Microsoft does have
a problem with security, Mac has very expensive hardware and little 3D
capabilities and Linux is more secure and stable than Windows
out-of-the-box. Most people just jump on a bandwagon in an effort to
gain online social status. Doesn't work when you sound like a moron.

Expensive pieces of crap, in my opinion. And yes I have used them. If you want to be anal about your computer, at least go for Lunix ;P

Im not a big fan of the Macs cos I can do everything I do on a mac on my pc.
I have to use them every day at college cos I'm on a Multimedia Design course which means lots of graphic design and design studios use Macs so I have to learn on them.
Most of the tutors are always bashing the pc's saying that there slow compared to the mac and that the mac dont crash (I have managed to crash about 2 or 3 of them granted its not as much as my pc would but still it crashed.)
I have noticed no difference in performance.
I do like the OSX though I find it much more likable than Windows. Thats the reason I will one day fully make the switch to linux but I'm too lasy at the min to do it now.
Oh and I forgot I dont like having no right mouse button its much easyer than having to hold ctrl and I for get that just about everything that the ctrl button is used for in windows you have to hold the apple key to do on a mac.
But dispite what I dont like about it I would still recomend getting one to anyone because it is a good machine it all depends on what you want to use it for.

I never used a mac (well, not for anything more than just mucking around) until the first practical class of my computer science course. I still like PCs better, but thats probably just becuase I'm used to the interface. Having no RMB irritates me, but eventually I'll get over it I guess. For most of what I'm doing (writing java and running it in terminal, and browsing the net) its almost identical to windows, except the interface is jumbled around. I still havent quite figured out the little popup thingy at the bottom of the screen, I'm slowly figuring out its also a taskbar. One thing that bothers me is that if you close a program window (but only in some programs), it doesnt actually stop the program running, you can still switch to it in the taskbar.
One thing I really hate is OSX skins on winxp. It eats resources, for an interface people like me (whove used windows most of their lives) dont find intuitive. Get a mac ya weirdos

As if displaying the current images for the windows desktop is any more effecient?
Also, the no right mouse button is easily remedied. You can get normal USB mice for Macs no problem.

Being a graphic designer in training I use both PC and Mac machines for
my work. Due to the PC's extreme popularity with ordinary users because
it is cheaper, easier to get software for, and capable of do it
yourself upgrades, the mac has become a "professional" tool. In graphic
design it is considered the best tool for the profession, with much of
the software only available for the Mac. At least it was. The PC
however is starting to encroach on that area too, as much of the
software that was considered specialised and for Mac's only is now also
available for PC.
While I prefer PC's because the operating systems make a hell of a lot
more sense to me, there is more software support, I can upgrade myself
and do it cheaply, there is nothing wrong with a Mac. I think it's
biggest problem has been the issue of software compatibility and also
its rediculous pricing, being significantly more expensive than the
equivalent PC.

My only problem with Macs is networking. Oh. Dear. God.
At school we have all the servers running on 'nix, with almost
everybody using Windows XP on their computers. And then someone brings
along a Mac and says "Can you set up my internet proxy settings for me?"
15 minutes of hammering in the proxy settings and checking boxes, and
there is still no network access. Tried this with several Macs - no
luck. Windows XP was a doddle to set up, Firefox or IE, for proxys. Mac
obviously has a vendetta against the school servers, as these machines
were having none of it.

I realise that macs are the underdogs of today's computer world, but we gotta remember the fact that it was a macintosh system that first demonstrated the windowed display technology, and Microsoft stole it later on. I'm posting this message off a PC, but i oculd have done it with the same sped and efficiency from a Mac. However, the "screen-only" macs are hard to upgrade, imean i can't trick it out with a new processor or video card. that sucks pretty freakin' bad, especially in my DI class where we are doing 3d rendering, which a stupid iMac is definitely unfit for. Anyways, if you mean one of those horridly obsolete Macs, then i'd say the best use for it would be a HL2-style zombie squisher. those things are heavy as hell! I worked at my school library for a couple of months and i almost broke my back carrying those to the dumpster...

You mean, Xerox had the first computers to demonstrate a windowed display which was stolen by Apple/Macintosh and then stolen by Microsoft  (just like the mouse)
