Heh, quite cool actually. Only thing that comes to mind is his middle - it looks too narrow. Other than that, it's nice.

heh, that'd make a good concept sketch of one of my urban undead characters. he started off as a fireman, but i left him outside overnight. he's still got his axe, too.

just needs a little more peeling skin. :smile:

It looks like the largest issue is proportions. Everyone has problems with them, but the degree at which you have problems depends on your experience with them.

However, it seems you have enough knowledge of it to make the character not look flat.

Something I could suggest, is to find a picture of a person in a pose, similar body structure of course, and try to copy their details and mold them into your own character. Like, it doesn't matter if they're holding an Axe. Use several pictures, if you like. Hell they could be wearing a coat ... get a picture just for the eyes, you know?

It's just makes things MUCH easier if you have reference photos.

It's okay. Surprisingly, the lips aren't what's wrong

I can't seem to find the original picture ... which was originally plastered everywhere on google.

Yeah thanks for your comments guys, especially you Crono.
Interestingly enough I tried drawing from reference photographs from
fireman I google image searched but I ended getting so caught up in
going back and forth from the screen to the paper I just got frustrated
and stopped. I used a reference photo for the axe though... I
didn't want to get it wrong.

I've got a renewed interest in drawing because I've rediscovered the
penciljack.com forums which are an awesome resource for artists.
Check it out Crono (and the rest of you), if you can.

As for the fireman, I drew it for my own Urban Dead character. I
didn't mean for him to come out undead, but from the weird nose and
grimace I can see how he looks like it. Fishy I wouldn't mind
taking a crack at a totally new fireman that's been substantially
rotted and zombiefied. What's the character's name out of
curiosity?

As for the 4 fingers per hand, it's just something I noticed but didn't
end up changing, partly because the whole picture seems kind of
cartoony to me, and partly because when I gave him five fingers it just
looked weird to me.

Edit: Damn Crono, I almost forgot to say I really like that
picture! I would have thought it was Amelia Earhart if not for
the catwoman-esque ears going on. Is that just part of the hat or
what?

I wish I could find the damn picture. But that chick is actually in that costume. There's a guy in a Batman costume too. They're really amazing costumes done by this group of people. They do comic book and manga/anime costumes and wear them to conventions and stuff ... the only thing is: they're f**king good. Like, I really like the catwoman costume they made ... I just can't find the picture now.

The pilot? Yeah, I could see that, given the flying gogles.

Also, I posted this up before here while I was making it ... People bitched it was too dark, but, you know what? It's Batman, so shut up. :razz:

A little note though. I made it before I knew Christian Bale was playing Batman in Batman Begins ... so the resemblance is a little ... freaky ... especially to me.



The photoshoping isn't that good, but that was my firs real attempt at coloring something in PS using Airbrush techniques ... not that I've tried since

I don't think any of the stuff I've done is that good though. Maybe that's because I wish I could make art work like Alex Ross ... or um ... that guy who's doing Secret War right now (if the last issue will ever come out) ... I can't remember his name, I'll go look in a little while.

I do like that batman, but as far as Christian Bale is concerned, its
kind of hard to spot a likeness when all you've got to go on is a mouth
and a chin.

That picture looks really cool emerging from the blackness that is the snarkpit background.

Oh and sweet catwoman costume, although I'm kind of partial to the creepy stitching that michelle pfeiffer wore.

Yeah, I like them both. But then again, her costume tore like every take or something like that.

The only likeness is the mouth ... or at least it used to be ... whatever. It's there.

Haha... it's just not the same with the suit.... and without the white sneakers...

In the same vein as the axeman (think Urban Dead and zombies) I drew
another picture today in about 15 minutes. I'll go back and clean
it up, and then sharpie it to make it look better, and then maybe I can
find someone to digitally color it.

Done use a sharpie. Just ink it in photoshop. Sharpies are pretty sloppy, actually. They bleed.

Like I said when you showed me earlier: Zombies usually like their victims alive. Unless it's some dude who's turning and decides to kill his friend before he finished turning. I don't know what you were thinking so I couldn't say :smile:

You should try drawing on larger paper, so when you do details they don't end up all scrunched together ... and use a sharp pencil :razz:

Check out some proportioning sites. It's still got screwy proportions. But, it looks pretty cool.

I'll try inking digitally, although I don't have a tablet, so it'll be a challenge.

Yeah my picture makes no sense what so ever. Perhaps its a
smart/evolved zombie from Land of the Dead who wants to be the Othello
to this human's Desdemona?

I do need to draw bigger. I always start too small...

And yeah, the mechanical pencil I doodle with isn't very sharp is it?

I try to browse through http://www.saveloomis.org/ to work on my anatomy but I get frustrated quickly.

Ew, mechanical? Don't use those, you're probably perssing too hard. If the lines are still there when you erase, it's a huge indicator.

Coloring things in photoshop with a mouse is easier than using a tablet ... unless you're doing brush strokes type stuff. But inking in particular, is easier with a mouse.

Something I suggest before you put it in photoshop is tape the drawing up to a window with a blank sheet of paper ontop (during the day of course) and trace it, so it's nice and clean. Scan that in, and it'll be MUCH easier to work on in PS ... especially because there will be little clean up.
