Well, You can do it with a computer (of some sort, could be the size of a dime).
You can concentrate on a specific frequency of sound, whenever that frequency is hit, or gone over, the connection for the lights is completed. Just depends on what frequency is chosen.
I have some lights that have flashing in sync to music, but it's very simple, like more simple than midi. In that case, there is some hand done stuff telling the lights to go brighter. (Makes sense, since you have turn the sound off)
Anyway, there's a bunch of other ways you can do it, in any case, they either bought lights that were very expensive, or they're smart.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.
