when you use an env_fog_controller, it has the option, Primary fog direction, with a default value of (1 0 0). When you mess around with the entity angle it doesn't affect this. Anyone have a clue what it is? I have yet to find out no matter how much I mess with it.

  • fogdir
<vector> A vector (given by three space-separated numbers X Y Z) which points from the secondary fog color fogcolor2 towards the primary fog color fogcolor. (So it's only used if you want Fog Blending)

Don't people take pre-calculus anymore? :smile:

Used in this context, it's basically a direction for the fog colors to blend in. Kind of like the Gradient tool in Photoshop.

nice in deapth link about vectors, but it doesn't explain how one colour can point at another colour from different directions.

ohhh I get it. If anyone has used flash, you choose the direction you want the color to fade to. Let us say the vector (think of it as an arrow) is pointing like this

------->

then your fog will be blended in that direction. So if you chose white as primary and black as secondary, it should look like this:

(Player)-> | white smoke | gray smoke | black smoke|

If the arrow is pointed downward, then your fog will turn into what looks like a bottomless pit. Awsome!

Think of colour as a three-dimensional space, where X, Y and Z correspond to red, green and blue.
