OK, I bought HL2 new when it came out. Unfortunately, my son installed it and used some names and emails I was never happy with.

Remedy: He wants to buy me my own copy for Christmas.

Problem: I have since bought a new HL1 copy, a DOD/s and whatever else goes with steam and installed it. If I get a new copy of HL2, will I lose my chance to install me copies of HL1 and DOD/s? I mean, they are registered to the first copy of HL2's steam account.

In other words, if I install a fresh new copy of HL2 will I have to re-buy all my games registered under the old account?

Surely you could just change the damn name! They aren't going to get touchy over something as trivial as that are they!?

You wont have to buy anything new. If you purchase a game you already own and install it on steam, you keep the older copy (and the newer one is not valid!) So, it'd be best if you made a new steam user id. OR. Better yet, be kind and transfer your current copy of DoD: S to my account. Since you're getting another copy anyway, we could both have one! (I am of course assuming if you get the $50 platinum pack, or the $60 online pack)

But, yeah, it will only add to the account, but if you already have games that are included with the new key ... then you will not get two copies of the same game under a single account.

You might want to look into transferring games, it takes a little time, but as I understand it, it is completely possible. It's for if you sell the game or something and you actually sell it, not just give the disc away.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

sighs

I suspect you're right Adam.

Dangit, I wanted my own account, but I am not about to purchase everything yet again.

OK, thanx bud.

(for the record, everything is legit on my account, bought and paid for.)

Who said you have to buy everything again?

You can make your own account.

You can transfer ANY game you want to that account through Valve and cooperation of the account owner (you!)

There's really nothing else to it. I was speaking of the situation, that you said you were in, that you already own certain games ... and you're going to buy a package which also encompasses those games.
