Magnificent cliff-work, sir, and spiffy homemade textures too  It looks a bit like UT2003 terrain, which is a massive achievement in the HL engine (especially with R's like that).
Well done for quietly plugging away at mapping until you were ready to release something special. I look forward to seeing the final version.

You decided on how you are going to encase the level? Obviously you aren't gonna leave the edges as skyboxes but I'm curious as to how you are gonna go about it.

My 'texture protection system' that I have goes much deeper than that - certain pixels in every texture I had in that image were a certain color 'proportional' to the coloring of the whole image, so it's easy to tell when somebody's taken my work. It's quite ingenius, I can assure you
And you will also recognize that it's quite impossible to get anything near the quality of the originals when you do that (more or less intact, HUMBUG, you just copied different sections of the image over). I would more than easily be able to prove that someone had ripped me off.
Lastly, the text was just there for the hell of it. A lot of maps have taken or edited my textures - if it looks good, I just say hell with it, if it doesn't, I ask them to remove it. Fairly simple.

If you're really paranoid about these things, I believe it is possible to encode images with digital watermarks. I'm not sure how they work though.

Yes, I am rather proud of these ones. Not a single one is composed out of one photo - in fact, the rock is closer to having been a mix of fifteen different textures, but I'd say I got a fairly nice result.

Looking very nice, Cass. maybe add some rocks jutting out of the terrain to give it a wilder atmosphere and some cool shadows

Now now Gollum, let the man enjoy his new fangled card. It'll be obselete by next week.
Speaking of which I might consider getting one, hevent really spent any money on my computer other than an optical mouse (which I loathe for its trackball).

You seem to have me confused with someone who uses the abbreviated version of Richard as their name.

An optical trackball does exist. It's just the same as a normal trackball, only instead of little wheels that touch the ball detecting movements of it, an optical sensor like the one on an optical mouse looks at the textured ball.

Advantage: It works on reflecting/transparent surfaces too.

I'd like to see a combination of the orginial and the new shots. I really liked the lighting in the orginial shots, that sky was much nicer and it had a better feel to it but i also like the idea of these buildings around it and i think they could owrk out really well when you finish them. shrug Looks good though.

Really nice work Cassius, although I have to agree with Mr.Ben. The old sky and lighting was much better.
Keep it up

Didn't know that people would so much prefer the de_dust sky over dod_stuka, but whatever
I changed the lighting by accident - it's actually the same light_environment as in the second shot, but I accidently put the bounce to some astronomical number and bam, it turns orange. Such bizzarre lighting errors have happened every step of the way in this map - RAD really, really hates my terrain. However, when I put in the DoD trees and the Stuka sky, it looked oddly like a sunrise in Utah I once witnessed.
To my eyes, both the lighting styles have their distinct benefits. The dawn light compliments the buildings but hurts the terrain, and the daylight hates the buildings but really sexors my terrain. If I can't get a good balance between the two, the map will be daylight.
