I've found a very interesting article on DRM. It is written in a style easy to follow for everyone, even people who aren't really totally into the subject.

I'd advise anyone (with half an hour of time to spend) to read through it. It has changed my views on DRM quite a bit.

Plus: the guy jokes around quite a lot, he's a science-fiction writer too

Besides a way to punish honest consumers and provide a trivial speedbump to thieves? Digital Rights Management. It's the reason you can't play music files bought from certain sources in certain music players.

What is DRM?
Digital Rights Management, basically its the stuff on mp3's (for example) that prevents copying etc.

Oh my, sounds evil. Although I understand why piracy is bad and all that it sucks if it affects all those that buy a product.
What the Snarkpitters listen to!

Apple are changing their rules on DRM I heard, recently. I didn't read
the article myself as it doesn't really interest me, but I've seen
plenty of discussion on it here. It relates to EMI as well... somehow

Pwned - a blog on the subject I can recommend.
You are not the gatekeeper of music.. Those days are over... The internet is not your competitor.

Why snark works.

Basically, all EMI tracks will be available in 2 formats, the regular DRM-mp3/aac at the same price currently and DRM-Free mp3/aac at a higher bitrate for 30c more, you will also be able to 'upgrade' any of your tracks for the difference in price.

DRM is why I stopped buying a lot of very specific albums. They had so much extra garbage that I just could not justify purchasing it. I don't appreciate having old rights and eases of use taken away and sugar-coated to sound like they're doing me a favour.
