Hi,

Anybody who's played the last version of Operation Nova won't be surprised to hear that I'm trying to find some voice actors to improve how it sounds. So I just thought I'd ask if you guys have any advice about how to do this? I'm going to ask on voiceactingalliance.com and a few film-making related sites but other than that I'm not really sure what the best way to do this is. I remember I asked around a while ago but couldn't get anybody to do it.

Seems weird, when you think of how many drama students there are out there you would think somebody would want to.

Actually this reminds me of this site that used to exist ages ago that was set up specifically for voice actors for Half-Life mods. I'm pretty sure it no longer exists which is a shame. It was cool when it did.

I'll tell you what. One of the biggest concerns of mine is voice acting for my mod. I need many thousands of voices. YOU GIVE ME ALL THESE SITES LIKE THE AWESOME ONE YOU JUST MENTIONED. You can have my voice if you want. I am Australian so I guess I have an Australian accent. My voice isn't low and isn't high, just normal.

Whats your voice like? I need many voices. I need all types of voices both cinematic, combat and mission voices.

Actually I've been sending out loads of emails to various drama groups on the net, and unbelievably, I've had loads of decent responses already  . I'm not sure they'd want loads of HL mappers emailing them at once but yeah I'll keep talking to them and ask them about doing other projects. If they want to, I'll definitely put you in touch with whoever's interested in helping you out, or anyone else for that matter. Maybe I'll end up posting a list of them on here or something. I've actually found a guy who sounds a lot like the HL scientists which is amazing.

I don't have a decent mike, or I'd have volunteered for a few one-liners.

Awesome, thanks breengreenwood. Anyways the characters voices will be one of the last things that will be added into reddawn before it is unleashed on the interwebs. But I am making a beta and I have to start thinking about voices for that beta.

Would be cool to have fishys voice in the mod to, maybe make it an easter egg or something.

Actually I've been thinking, what might be cool would be a section on the Snarkpit that is basically a bunch of links to online drama groups etc. who are willing to have their members do voice-acting work for maps/ episodes. I'm guessing a lot of modders/ mappers would find this really useful. I guess it could be a bit like the prefabs section, just with links to groups of actors instead.

I'd be willing to provide you guys (i.e. the Snarkpit) with a list of groups who have members who are interested in voice-acting, because I'm already looking loads of them up for my own episode. So how's about it? Anyone else think this would be a good idea? If so how would we go about setting it up?

BTW If it does get set up the only thing I'd ask in return would be a credit for compiling the list and a link to my website (when I get it set up).

My mic's semi-crap or I'd avail myself as well.

bengreenwood, you could create a tutorial and have it linked from the FAQ's, or create a thread with links and ask the mods to sticky it.
What the Snarkpitters listen to!

Yeah, that's a good idea. Maybe I'll do a voice acting tutorial. Then 'voice acting' could be listed with the others, like 'architecture', 'editor', etc. Also what might be cool would be to just have all the voice acting sites listed on the links page here at Snarkpit. Maybe there could be another links section entitled 'voice acting', with sites that have been confirmed to have actors who want to do video game voice acting.

BTW guys, I figured I might as well just give you the addresses of the voice acting sites I've had responses from so far.

1. http://buffybetweenthelines.com/ (mostly female voice actors).

2. http://www.huboftheuniverseproductions.com (I received an email response but havn't had any auditions yet).

3. http://www.cookiecolletti.com/ (really good female voice actor).

4. http://www.wirelesstheatrecompany.co.uk/ (probably the best site, I've had a couple of female and male actors respond from there).

I'll post up more as I find them, I've just been a bit busy lately.
