my map isnt dark but i do have lights in it BUT before i had no lights and it still is bright. i think its the vrad or rad isnt running becuase from what i read thats what is happening.

any ideas? :confused: Its in game so thats the related to box and compiling on of them!

If you don't place any lights in your map, it will automatically become full bright. If you want your map to be dark, then you should use very dim lights.

And yes, you need to run VRAD. In hammer, just hit [F9] and make sure that vrad is at least running on "fast".

But i have lights and why on fast i have it on normal what it came with. just wondering why.

well i believe the obvious problem is the too many light styles on a face. which i think means you have too many in one room or something that has a lot of different lights on it. like a long wall and a different light every 5 feet on it.

so my suggestion to you is to delete all but one light compile and see if it shows up dark.

if so add a few lights each time and compile to see just where the problem starts to start again and then back up one step.

if you do have a long wall with different lights next to it. try clipping the wall in a few places so there will be more than one face
the only problem with steam updating things every week is it doesent give the developers an incentive to playtest thier work, so we do it for them
