Map Description

This is a "tiny/break" style map that derives a certain amount of inspiration from Supa's breakhive. If you've seen his map, then you'll know what I'm talking about.

I've decided to post this one early this time to get some helpful feedback and beta testing before I call it "released". Hopefully this will help improve my final version.

General Map Info (08/22/2005)
############################
  • There is a large amount of breakable objects making up the castle's walls. When the bomb goes off, the entire roof of the castle explodes!
  • The dumptruck brush model will possibly be replaced with a 3DMax model, though I unfortunately have absolutely no knowledge on how to turn a 3DMax model into an HL2 model... need help there. This may possibly apply to the bucket and shovel too.
  • The layout and castle are due to be changed, I don't really feel like it's current state makes for good gameplay.
  • When the layout and castle are updated, I will put beta 1 up for download for gameplay testing and feedback, possibly this week.
############################

Check out the screens, I hope you like it. :)

Anyone have any knowledge in regards to getting models into HL2?

I agree with Tracer Bullet that the fallen down peices shouldn't be so blocky.

It would look great if the fallen parts are mostly a jumble of sand, but there are subtle hints of what shape it used to be.

The link on the front page is broken by the way. It should point here:

Yea, I shot them an e-mail about it since I can't edit it now that it's on the main page. :/

Tracer: Thanks for the suggestions but no thanks to the rudeness.

Maze: Thanks.

Cool concept.

Seems rather open... However, I'm not much into HL2 mapping as yet so I've don't know if it matters so much anymore.

-The castle, and the rubble in particular ought to look more like sand. I.e. No improbably lage blocks lying around as if they fell from the structure. That piece of the turret looks particularly lame. Use displacement surfaces to make piles of sand with some much more disntegrated pieces embedded in them instead.
  • Make the terrain more interesting. If a child had really been in there making a sand castle, there would be holes and trenches everywhere from exavating enough sand for the structure.
  • Put in a mote. Every kid on earth knows that a castle needs a mote.
I suggest that you use these suggestions (particularly the one about terrain) to reduce your sight lines.

Alot better than what i previously have seen from you, nice idea :)

try for a 3d skybox to make it looks like you're actualy in some suburbian comunaty.
