Map Description

This is a hotel, you start in the old part of the hotel, or should i say, the abandoned part, and make your way to the nice looking part..
This map isnt related to fighting monsterssolving mazes or anything...its a map with nice gloomy effects i added to, i worked on the lighting and arciticture, plus the dustmotes, in an abandoned area, lots of dust there right??
And i worked on hints and areaportals, which was my main weakness, im happy i solved the problem now :D
So this map illustrates how good lightning and a bit good arciticture, and a very sweet fps, could be used in a map :D

Ah the Dark is back
I'll give this a go sometime but for now accept my picture review!

The lighting is quite good, probs better than mine  I usually make nice lighting by accident
The architecture needs a bit of work however and I think you should add more supports and stuff...

Remember that dm_abandoned? That wasn't half bad, I hope you don't mind me using that by the way cause it was a good map

Damn, i really wanted atleast 1 guy to test out the map...

You might wanna zip it. Zipping BSP's can [in some situations] reduce the file size to 1/10 what it was before. I can't really test it anyway, I always use my laptop nowadays. I'm considering selling my desktop and my laptop to get a beast of a laptop with uber graphics card etc. Laptops with docking bays are the way forward.

Thanks -Myrk, ill look toward better architicure

And btw, its much better than my older maps...much better indeed, thats
why im happy with my results, im focusing more into FPS, where my other
maps lagged like hell, this map contains areaportals and hints, which i
havent been able to accomplish in other maps...

I may not be perfect, but this map is the best i got, until now...

Its listed as HL2 SP. The 1 in the corner just means 1 player, just look for the squared sign to see if its HL2.

Also I'd be careful about being self proclaiming about certain aspects- mainly your good architecture comment. Personally it looks like terrible architecture, but good construction (the fact that what you have looks realistic, but that doesn't mean it looks good).

If you want to make it look good you should make the build art deco kinda style. By that I mean sorta georgian period buildings with the nice shallow domes in the cielings with artistic carvings in and decorative trims etc. Derelict/scabby buildings of that style are quite common, and you'll realise it looks better. Max Payne used art deco alot. Heres some images to give you an idea.

I personally suggest playing Max Payne 1 or 2 to get a feel for the style in a derelict stage (if thats what your going for). Using this style is a good way to add alot more detail to your map without too much effort (a few custom textures and a few skirting boards etc).

Getting some free webspace for yourself isn't so hard these days, and
you don't need much (yet) for this map. I used websamba.com for a
while, I think it's decent enough for what you need now. People can
download instantly without having to register or even seeing another
page, and that's good, isn't it?

florescent tubes don't throw light out directionaly like a spotlight, so pic 2 looks a bit odd. also, the bright flare of the point spotlight in pic 4 is too far out from the lightsource.
