Hey guys,

I want to make a poster for my room (roughly the size of a posterboard,
but perhaps larger) and the premise is that I would take a single panel
(or a few) from an old-fashioned comic and enlarge it to poster
size. When I was touring colleges 3 years ago I saw it done, and
I was impressed. The guy who did it used the simple grid method
to blow up the image, and then painted everything, and it was done very
well. What he did has always stuck with me and now I finally want
to do the same thing.

So -- my problem is actually finding a resource image to expand.
I've google image searched for quite a bit, but not knowing exactly
what to search for, the closest thing I could find to what I want is
this image:

But that's way too small (and merely just a hint at what type of image I'm searching for).

I want that old style, and I don't want something that's too iconic
(ie. No Action comics or recognizeable superheroes, just random Dick
and Jane type comics).

I don't really know my comic history, so I can't even put it into
words, but I'm basically looking for something that uses the halftone
dot style that looks sort of like this:

I apologize if I'm being longwinded or vague, but you guys are a
tremendous resource and I would appreciate any suggestions or links you
could provide.

Thanks in advance!

Ask around on this forum. I'm sure someone there can help you.

Thanks for the links. I still haven't found one that I want to use, but I appreciate the help.

I also rated one of your maps Orph.

Yeah.. It sends a PM for every comment someone makes, tis how I know when nobody rates one.

and

wait till Crono arrives. He is the local "in the know" man for older comics.

Did I find any you had not found?

Yeah, the searches you defined were different from those I had already
tried, but after browsing through the results I couldn't find anything
that stood out or caught my eye. I just have to keep looking
until I find the perfect panel or two.

/giggles.

Dude, I am having a tough time believing you actually searched for, and previously found the "Sex to Sexty" comic book.

You fibber.

I said your searches were different from the ones I did. As for
the Sex to Sexty part... I didn't know what to make of it (and all the
random porno that came along with it) so I just ignored it.

something like this ? you should find what you're looking for on deviantart, just need the correct category.

you probably already know this, but to posterize / pixelize small pics into posters (which you can paint over afterwards) there is no tool like the rasterbator

BlisTer, thanks I completely forgot about deviantart. The picture
you linked to isn't exactly what I'm looking for (I'm thinking more
like a comic from the 40's or 50's) but I appreciate you looking for me.

However, the rasterbator seems like an awesome tool. I appreciate
you giving me the benefit of the doubt, but I hadn't heard about it
before

This tool looks amazing, but part of me wants to do it all by hand... so I can truly say that it was my artwork.
