Temple was included exclusively in Action Half-Life v1, but since it's been a couple years I thought I would convert it to HLDM.

There are some pretty innovative things on this map:
-Special particle effects I created for water fountains and shooting fire cinders.
-3D lightbeam effects that are a bit better than the usual HL fair.
-In AHL, doors seal the central room in rounded modes and everyone outside dies; this is to keep rounds shorter since it's a big map. I'll have to see if it's practical to somehow integrate this into the HLDM version (happening periodically for example)
-Tons of custom sounds. Sounds/looks nothing like a regular HLDM map.
-A few neat traps. I especially love the pit with the pop-up spikes. It makes a FWACK sound and shoots up extra gibs for good measure.

The 'beta' available for download is actually the Action HL version zipped up. It works in HLDM, though after a couple minutes the doors seal the inner area; you can still see the rest of the map by typing 'kill' in console to spawn elsewhere, though. This will be fixed in the HLDM version obviously.

I am thinking of using a modified spawn loadout like I did for Battleschool (which got tons of downloads). Instead of the useless pistol, give people the AR, magnum, and jump module. It's a big map and the module will help people get around it easier I think. (The default player movement in AHL was faster, so it wasn't an issue for that mod.)

Take a look around, and see what you think. Note that while I'm willing to convert the map if people would enjoy it, I don't really plan on redoing it in any major way. I spent two years working on this map, it's DONE lol. I'd just like to get it out there for HLDM so more people can enjoy all the freaking work I put into it.

it's not being ported to Source, just to regular HL1 Deathmatch.

I might start a new HL2DM map sometime soon. I have some practice with Source working on a Fortress Forever map, but I like starting with small DM maps when I'm learning. FF_Ramparts is a bit big & complex to deal with right now somehow :/

Please don't drag personal flames into this thread, Frissi - if you
have something to say to Orpheus, I am sure he will be happy to discuss
it with you privately.

Attacking him on this thread isn't doing your reputation any favours, nor is it on topic with the thread.

Frissi, I don't hate you, or your maps.

If I hated you, I'd go to where you hang out and say so. You come here remember.

If I sound angry, its because you are short changing yourself. I see so much more in you.

Anyway.. This is Jinxy's thread and.. I have no clue why we are in here.

Not about the map per say but about HL1.

I used to frag it pretty regular with 56k. My pings sucked but I could play.

If I endured the horrible updating with steam, do you guys think I could frag again?

I cannot even load HL1 because its not updated enough.

I tremble each time someone posts "Steam update blah blah" in the general forums.

56k isn't the internet, it's a cruel mockery of the internet.

and to think i saw these posts and was excited that maybe they had something to do with the thread's topic ;p

assuming I do this conversion, is there anywhere other than here that hosts or reviews HLDM maps anymore? I'm going to do it either way, it's just whether I decide to do any major entity work for some special stuff, or whether I just dump in the DM gun/ammo entities and be done with it.

what guns are acceptable to use nowadays? is the egon still grossly overpowered?

Weapons IMO have always been so:

Size of map is equal in direct proportion to total weaponry placed.

I have also, never truly found a map that compliments the Egon so its.. Authors choice.

My weapon of choice is the MP5, so my maps tend to reflect that. Many favor the shotgun, which I hate and my maps often reflect this too.

But seriously, any weapon short of the Egon is fine for almost any map. Its really how many of each thats truly important.

/2 cents.

yeah, this is a large map so there will probably be multiples of some guns. I might include an egon, but limit its ammo... I always hated the gun, though, because lpb's could whore it, but hpb's couldn't use it for s**t. Maybe I'll do what I did on Revenant, and put the egon in places where you can see it but not reach it. I'm a bastard that way!

I looked at my game_player_equip for Battleschool; I started players with the magnum and jump module as well as the regular pistol/crowbar. I am considering doing that on this map as well since the jump module helps people get around a lot faster. Would totally change the pace of the game, though, so I dunno.

Frissi.

Your English skillz are showing... Again. And you wonder why things turn out odd.

This map is for HL1.

Jinxy, if you limit the Egon's resources, you limit the Guass as well. If you have a choice between castrating the Guass and having an Egon. Lose the Egon.

If you give the players a bit of "battery armor" by using the game_player_equip it should reduce the damage from the egon, of course from alot else also :grenade:

Okay. I have 2 nice places I can hide it without it being physically reachable, though. bwaha.

I have the editor and resources for it set up, and have it compiling properly. I just ripped out the unneeded AHL entities, now to distribute the HLDM stuff. Beta in a few days, depending on how busy I am.

it started off as a 'hey I'll do a conversion in a couple weeks because I have no ideas' and evolved from there. some parts of the layout are still similar, but it changed a lot as I was making it. I'm so bad about coming up with map ideas... usually I find it easier to have some simple layout idea to start with, then work from there.

I wasn't part of the core (the 'A-Team'), but I tested, contributed maps, and did a bit of behind the scenes map-related work (tweaking and retexturing other maps for example). Great community, great people. :)
