Beta 2 coming soon, I'm going to remove the entrance from bottom hive which links to the Sub-Junctions as it makes the map appear too small. Going to add a touch more lighting to Plasma Manifold & Correction, more sound coming along too, particle system probably won't be introduced until B3/4

In general it looks like a fine map, but in amongst all the NS heavyweights, there just doesn't seem to be anything that makes it special. It doesn't have any defining features in particular, which makes it somewhat generic. Thats my thoughts about a lot of NS maps however, so don't take that harshly.

The darkness up at ceiling level just suggests there is nothing up there so you want to hide it. In fact in general I would say it looks a little dark, and this is a bit odd looking considering the brightness of many of the light sources. Those computer monitors in the third screenshot for example, should surely light up the floor they are facing, but instead it is dark, and the same can be said for the orange light in the second shot. In the first shot there is no light source between the wall on the right and closest energy thing, and the area is near pitch black. NS is of course meant to be atmospheric, and a lot of people interpret this as meaning "make it dark". While this can occasionaly work, I think in general it is a view that should be avoided.

Anyway, perhaps I've come across a little harsh, especially considering it looks and accomplished enough map, but these are just niggles I think would improve things.

Well in playtests we established it is very dark lol. Thats being improved of course.

Reno you haven't come across harsh at all. Mapping is all about learning, beta maps are all about improving. I'm glad people like you have the bottle to "knock" maps to get them improved.

LOL wild, "starting" is not the right word, I think it was more popular within 10 seconds of its release!

NS mapping is very, very hard. It requires a lot of patience, time and design skill. Really, NS maps should only be tackled if you think you're ready for them. If you don't beleive me, give it a go. you'll probably be dissapointed.

The hive isn't bad, but the other two look a bit...well, boring and empty really. And those blue things just stand out way too much.

Yeah I know NS Mapping is hard, makes it a challenge and test really. The blue things in beta 2 are more out of the way, as the route between them has been destroyed. All they are now is just pretty things.

EDIT The hive with the stairs has had its res node moved to the upper section, the lower section is now flooded to get rid of the "emptiness", more infestation is also being added to other hives, major layout changes too.

i think it looks rather dark but extreemly good you dont get many ns maps considering you have to be very good to make a good one and also they sort of went  as steam sort of messed it up.

Have you stuck an env_gamma in there? That would help the darkness.

Gamma is 1.5 (I think). It tells you the gamma when you boot the map up

Try a 1.7 or 2.0, that could help the darkness.
