I got ambient_generic and it is activated when someone presses button: but i would liek to put my own custom sound instead of it - i didn't find any simple explanations of how to do it so i'm asking for help  .

Ive also seen atht not all wavs and mp3 pass good enough for sounds -any issue on that?

A possible solution.

If so, you will be the first to my knowledge who has actually used the tutorial.

Good luck.

I cannot answer any of these questions save one. To my knowledge, custom sounds do not transfer over a server. You must make the file available prior to playing.

At least, thats my take on it.

You might try creating a folder named "TVVL" and putting your sound inside it in another folder named "SOUND"

then when you set up your custom sound in hammer, point the properties toward that folder.

[EDIT] perhaps the red text at the bottom may lead you to the solution?

oh thanks

made the sounds work: for anyone out there who has same pros as me: u don't give source of file: eg. C:\\profiles\\valse and etc just give name: wave.wav its enough

but ah client download is what is now so interesting (coz making files available manually is annoying  )

thanks man for help

I am a bit sleepy Fisheye. I realize that my post sounded odd, but I wanted to clear this thread. If its not a correct answer, but the topic is resolved I wanna post it such.

Database search and all that.

old people are always sleepy.......

.......but as far as the database goes, i don't see this thread ever really helping anyone. anyone actually using the search feature will probably bump into the two tuts that this thread has links to, before finding their way here.

True, I know that you are right but.. Since I was a supporter of the search option it would not look right if I didn't use my nominal admin powers to help keep the system up.

I feel kinda guilty not being able to help much around here.

basically i found the answer!

one is here: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Res (from here i managed to allow files download and with thr irght folders names in res file they launched in game for other users BUT half people managed to load sounds but not thr rest!!! strange. Here i post the end of the file with sounds: tell me if i did it wrong:

"resources"
{
"bin/server.dll" "file"
"sound\bangbang3.mp3" "file"
"sound\bass3.mp3" "file"
"sound\highpiano3.mp3" "file"
"sound\middlepiano3.mp3" "file"
"sound\muahaha_2.lst" "file"
}

as for the these files they r in folders:

1.C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\name\source dedicated server\hl2mp\sound

2.C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\name\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp\sound

(So why do soem sounds load for half people and not the other!!!

I have also found this but didn't have time to study it:

http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Bspzip

So if anyone could add something else it would be coool

So far as I'm here i'd love to ask: anyone knows non-violent servers in HL2? e.g weapons not allowed and there r some interactive stuff? coz i wanna make such place

hmmm u find anything let me know: i will get on this soon but for now have to take some rest.

hmmm one more question: can Hammer be obtained for free and run without Hl2 package? or is there any source which is similiar where i can build smt in 3d and test it then like launching it and running aorund : also containing entities and inputs and outputs?
