Yeah, my 1.5'th map in Source, this one being alot prettier than the last one. The
descriptions and pics pretty much says it all, so all i'm looking for right now is feedback. Download the mod and the map and tell me what you think

Screens delight!

The security room. A good view over the walkways

This is the secret weapon, the all mighty BUTTON!. Press it and random lights go out!

The lights in the background have turned off. The mighty button!11

The walkways. As you can see, it's an extension of the old area

More of the walkways

This is the entrance to the socalled "Box Room". The hidden can block it with the barrels! Tons of fun!

User posted image

Teh box room! The hidden can hide on the edges, the boxes, or just taunt the "Retarded baboons" running around beneath him!

The escape / Hiding room for the hidden. You can see the vent in the distance. Only Hidden can enter this vent.

An overview of the entire map!

Dr. Shark: Have you ever heard of compressing your images? I see that
some of them are almost a full megabyte in size. I can tell you from
experience that it takes quite a while for a 56k modem user to open
those images. What I'm gently suggesting is that you optimize your
pictures a bit further down to... lets say 60-80KB, before Orph rips
you a new one.

OMG Sorry..... Didn't think it actually opened all the images, just the thumbnails :/. Bleh, will have to upload a bunch of new ones, which is going to take a while. I also don't have anything to resize it with (Paint won't work right?)

EDIT: 800x600 pics uploaded  Ya'll happy now  ?

Please do not get the wrong impression. This is an ongoing battle that I cannot seem to win.

Take a moment and read my tutorial. It can be insightful.

Thumbnails are thumbnails, but they do represent images that will eventually load if clicked upon and anything over 100k is expressly forbidden for simple game shots.

We have an art thread where you can upload your artistry to your hearts content.. Some of the images are huge there.

In a nutshell, you do not expressly have to make them 800x600. You can have any size you wish but that one fits best in the browsers.

100k is the upper limit on file sizes.

On a side note, going below 60k just ruins your attempt at optimization. No one EXPECTS you to ruin your screens. It has been confirmed that 80 to 100k is optimal. XAT jpg optimizer is your friend.

If that was imageshacks attempt, then they were absolutely huge before..

XAT is your friend... I promise that much.

I am getting ready for my next run. I will comment on the screens contents ASAP.

Looks OK, you've definitely got the hidden-style of mapping.

The windows on the first screen do look odd, though.

I might download this and have a poke around for you, see what I think.
I enjoy Hidden and as Force says, you seem to have the ideas to make a
good map for it. My initial thoughts would be that the detailing and
construction, while being solid work - is a little simple and sparse.

It also seems too light for a hidden map in parts, and looks like
there's lots of dead ends. Without many doors, it's going to be hard
for the hidden to run after he's taken out 1/2 people, especially if
the server has PS off.

1: It's the second map i've made, so it ain't excactly Valve work. I was also told from reliable people that it's best to sex it up once you're done with the layout

2: I had a playsession with 8 other people, 5 minute rounds and ps off. I had no problems taking them all down (primarily because of "The allmighty button!"

That "button" sounds like a bit of a cheat sheet for the Hidden :heee:

Looks a bit blocky to be quite Frank. I've never play Hidden, but I recall that the Hidden is half cloaked during game, or something. So I figure that lighting variation would be called for.

But the lighting in this map looks a bit blotchy and harsh  Put some more blending and bounces into it!

Again, 2'nd map, so it won't be pretty or something like that.

Well, the button is not a cheat. a logic_case picks 1 out of 3 cases where lights are turned off, and then turns them off. I made this to compensate for the small size of the map

Also, the jailcells are now closed to begin with, but can be opened with a handle. They then close again after 15 seconds, so don't get stuck in there!

How do i add some ambient lighting? And bounces? VBSP does that by itself it seems, i can't find out how to get some radient lighting in TEH box room

Nemisis' batch compiler comes with the ability to tweak light setting -- off hand, I think the standard amount of bounce lights for HL2 is something like 40.

Also, I think lighting can be made a little smoother simply by adding some very dull lighting in  It should dull and smoothen out some of the harsher lighting, and make it look as though the lighting is bouncing a bit more... play around with it, and see what happens.

Uhh, i gotta Google that

I totally forgot about the light entites with VERY low brightness. Also, there are only shadows in the box room now (everything else is LMS 32 for obvious reasons)

Thanks for clarifying, i'm gonna add some once i open hammer again
