The last Steam new suddenly increased my interst in CSS again (from none to "oh, it's still there!").

Valve is now binding weapon prices to a virtual market. The more often a weapon is bought the more expensive it becomes. Weapons hardly bought become cheaper!

I find this to be an ingenious idea, giving players a reason to buy weapons that usually are doomed to "roflolol the gay weapon why you nooB!!1" arguments now become an alternative because they're obviously cheaper and give you a money advantage that is actually worth the saving.

So I couldn't resist and search the CSS forums and, like I expected, the "competitive" gamers oppose it! Because it changes the gameplay from their years old tactics and they rpobably loose a frag because of it.

I've never been a friend of the "competitive" gamers. I have a few arguments against this type of gaming also but I just want to start it with this: Do you like the new pricing system? And should we care about the pro-gamers?

Whoa.

Thats a great idea, but I think it should be optional for the server. Actually, is it an optional thing? Cant you change weapon prices through console commands anyway, and just set up a script for your server?

The most surprising thing is that the awp is going down in price.

I think it sounds like a nice idea, however I can understand those that are pro-gamers and used to the old system. While they take the game very seriously and feel this will ruin the game, others might feel it's a breeze of fresh air.

Will you be able to run a game online that is not connected to this virtual market?

I feel like a game looses some of it's fun when everyone playing it is very serious, following strict strategies ect (could be because I'm not very good myself  ). Yesterday I played Natural Selection and I remembered how fun it was when I played it the first few times at a local LAN party. No one was any good, you didn't know what the map looked like around the corner and everyone was screaming trying to coordinate with the rest of the team. It was chaotic, but FUN!

The "dynamic market" for CS:S can be disabled with a console command, so all the competative players can breathe a sigh of relief.

Honestly, I think the dynamic market will be a fresh change for pub players, and will definitely encourage people to branch out from the AK/M4/Deagle/AWP ... which is great. CS was a game with only 4 usable guns... and hopefully this will change.

As for competative players, I understand why they're upset. Money-management (eco-rounds, buyout, etc) was a huge part of CS strats, and if prices fluctuated on a weekly basis they'd have a much harder time managing this aspect of the game.

Im getting the feeling nearly every public server that is frequented by more serious players will disable it, which will ruin the fun.

im all for the idea myself.

There is goign to be a server cvar to disable the globabl pricing so teh competitive gamers don't b*tch.

With most multiplayer games, the competitive part keeps it alive.

QFT!

If the prices of guns fluctuated on a weekly basis it would make the money management aspect of competative play a nightmare. On the pub side of it, maybe after this update people will start playing real CSS instead of "Gun Game" and CSSDM.

As long as there's a command to disable it, it won't really affect me.

The problem I have with it, is that it can make budgeting a major pain in the arse. I was never a master cs player, though I did learn the ropes quite well -- one of the things I prided myeslf in was that 99% of the time, I had money for what I wanted to buy, because I new the prices of items and I knew when to buy them and how much of it.
The idea itself is intriguing, but ultimately, I can't get that little voice out of the back of my head that's screaming that this "virtual market" is a bad idea.

Yeah I know what you mean. I could just look at the money I had and pick the best possible weapons / armor / nade set up for the round and be off like a shot.

This will take a weekly readjustment, and I don't think it'll ever get to the point where I'll have the same speed or accuracy.

The difference in price becomes negligible for a competent CS player - for me, this update strikes as "all style, no substance".

I dunno... for example the Desert Eagle's new projected price puts it at $950... which is a significant increase.

Pretty soon AK's won't be the most cost-effective gun in the game.

the few times i've actually played cs online it was easily noticable that the experience gamers never lacked funds, so the only way i see this affecting them is if the price actually does get that high on their choice weapon

I'm glad you use the real gun names and not the dumbed down version they had to change it to for the retail release.

Honestly... desert eagle or night hawk? You decide.

night hawk!

One more thing about the money market: I'm courious wheter this will change weapon pricing to an ideal mid-value, that will get a heavy change now and will not fluctuate more than 1 or 2 % in the next updates or if this will be a more dynamic change. (I doubt there will be much change after this btw.)
