mmm let's see if I understood the question... You downloaded a model and don't know where to put it?
there's a folder called models inside the mod main directory, but maybe you already did figure it out

most models/prefabs will usually have a readme.txt in the zip file, with instructions on where to put everything. i'm guilty of not including a readme with everything i post though, so if it's one of the truck models from the download section here that you're having trouble with, then there's no custom textures involved, and everything should go into [ROOT]\models\fishy\ripped
if you don't already have that folder, and i don't imagine you will, then you'll need to create it.

I have a question about this myself if anyone has similar experience.
Recently I found some nice GMOD models and I wanted to create a HL2dm map with them. Of course, I will get permission to use them if I eventually want to make a release. I just wanted to test it.
I put them in the proper directories and they show up in Source SDK, but
most of them crash when I try to load them.
They were the "cheeesy" models, the sliding icecube, exploding bobomb and
static prop "mario pipes". Seemed like a good start for a mario-themed map.
edit> the models show up perfectly in the model viewer. I actually got one
of the models to work, compiled it and played with the bombombs, but they
still crash SDK sometimes. The other models just cause SDK to "disappear"
when I select them in the model choosing screen.
