I posted my first map i have ever made on hammer in the maps section. This is a Halo 2 map Lock Out. A few things that I have been told to fix and im curently working on are

Textures: One problem im having is that i used the same block for the floor and roof of some parts so i go to change the floor and the roof under it changes too. Any ideas rather than redoing it would be apretiated.

Snow: It snows in the rooms and i was wondering if there was some kind of tool that allowed me to stop the snow in the rooms without doing every little section outside individually.

Fog: If anyone has played this map you know there is fog where you fall off the edge. I dont know how to add thick fog that you can fall into and die. I would like it to be as thick as a smoke grenade if possible.

Gravity Lift: Again if you played it you know about the gravity lift. Im not sure how to get this to work and really need help making it. For now i jsut used water but i think it takes away fromt he map seeing how you can go down the water but cant go down the gravity lift in the real game.

ADD ME TO XFIRE "cheramie" AND HELP ME WITH SOME OF MY PROBLEMS OR POST HERE. THANK YOU, SMERF

don't select any brushes. pick the texture that you want first, then right click on the face that you want it applied to.

Halo's game play is far different than HL2's.

Didn't we have the exact same thread a few weeks ago? Or was that another Halo map?
Why snark works.

I don't know how "gravity lifts" work in Halo 2 but try using a Trigger_Push. Use a func_smokevolume for the fog.

You can also apply materials to different polygons of a brush individually which probably solves your ceiling/floor problem.
Why snark works.

thanks, trigger push worked very well for the gravity lift except im having a little bit of troulbe with it. It doesnt auto push so when i make it push up and then push out, you have to move before it pushs you out. In other words you can sit in the gravity lift as long as you want untill you move and it kicks you out. Also, i couldnt get smoke volume to work and if you have a tutorial link let me know.

If you don't want to use a second fun_push you could place a upside down cone/spike using the player clip texture. when your pushed into it you'll pushed out to the side.

Well, I think before you start working on the technical aspects of the map, you need to get down your architecture and scale. As it stands right now, it could use a lot more work (based on the pics). Once that has been settled, then working on such things as the gravity lift and smoke volume below should take priority. If you begin working on the technical stuff now, then your map will have to change as you come back to "pretty" things up. But if you lay the architecture and scale down now, it will be out of the way for good, except for the occasional spruce-up here and there which is a lot less work than it will be if you continue on the same path.

well ive hosted lockout on my server for a little while now and alot of
people have the same complaint. That its too small. My argument is
always the same, seeig how its an fy map, it should be small and rounds
should be quick. My cousin recently suggested me droping the whole
"duplicating a halo map" idea and taking what i have and adding a bunch
of stuff to it to make it a little more fun. However i would keep the
origonal. what you guys think? download the map if you havnt yet and
tell me your opinions. map name is Halo 2: Lock Out on the map list.

Good map smerf, it kinda does look like lockout. I would think lockout would be a pretty easy halo 2 map to make. My freind just started makeing Headlong from Halo 2 for Half-life 1. Thats a challange.

It really does suck though how cs or half-life 2 for that matter dosen't have CTF or terrotories or oddball or any other cool modes. Anyway I'm gonna check it out so expect some feed back some time this year.

Well, for that matter, I think it sucks that Halo 2 doesn't have a gravity gun or any sort of awesome physics, nor any interesting monsters that do more than just shoot at you. It doesn't even have a hyphen in its title!?!?

(Just making a sarcastic point; and no, I don't feel like arguing this...)

If there was a word or smiley for a small laugh and a smile then it would be used right now. Cool fireworks outside. rofl all the dogs started barking after this really big 'bang'.

Well, as of today, I have been asked to help build this map by smerf. I will be completing my mfb round 2 competition map first of course, but this map will become my new project, and will be a co-produced map between smerf and I, so be expecting some cool stuff later...

I plan on including some custom content, and probably will find a way to include some original souds and textures from Halo 2 for pc, now that it's out. Just need to find someone with Vista, and a copy of Halo2...

Wish US luck for the completion of this project!
