Apple or pc? Who gives? Someone buying a pc:P

G'day, fellow pwners.
OS X Leopard is due for launch, as is a major update for most of the
Apple range. The new macbook (at a sexier price and even more massive
performance boost), came out 4 days ago, Apple now leading the laptop
market by a light-year. Me, on the other hand, am eagerly twiddling my
agile thumbs, awaiting the new Macbook Pro. Apart from the fact I want
it... (RIGHT NOW STEVE!!!), it looks rather silly on apple.com.au
having the macbook for $1899 with a faster DL DVD, (the only thing
lacking that of an equally powerful graphics card), and the macbook pro
being $3199.
I know this might seem a bit pointless, but it's probably the largest
investment I've made or will make for a couple of years:P, so I'd

Strange you come back after more than a year to do some advertising. And as obvious as it is, the method of advertising your using is sleazy and underhanded. I find adds like this very irritating.

Mac sucks.

the Apple Company or any of its resellers. To insult me because I
simply wished to canvas the views of others on a laptop I intend to
purchase is a childish, na?ve and myopic over reaction. Your
understanding and application of the words, ?sleazy? and
?underhanded?, indicate that you may not be the product of a
comprehensive education, as you seem to have misunderstood their
application. The Snark Pit is supposed to be a forum for light
hearted entertainment and friendly conversation. You may need to
examine your own fragile psyche. Do you really feel so
threatened as you appear to be by a stranger's interest in a
particular brand of laptop? You need to lighten up! Keep going like
this and you will be well on the way to developing Anankastic
Personality Disorder (a compulsive desire to say and do things which
one knows are stupid).

WIthout knowing what you're doing with the Mac, it's hard to say if it's a worthwhile purchase or not. Paying the best part of ?2,000 on a computer which is largely incompatible with the gaming scene would for me be madness. However, you might use it for other things like Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator etc etc...

Either way i'd go for the cheaper model. Mainly because it's SO much cheaper :razz: Now, lend me a screwdriver so I can put together my spinky new Core 2 Duo based machine..

The only good thing i like about mac computers is the look, and that's about it, luckily you can get pc cases that look somewhat like macs, the OS is pretty annoying, but that's mostly because I'm used to windows.
If i wanted something to show off to guests and stuff, I'd get a mac, then i could be all "hey look at this shiny white box" and they would go "ooh, aah".

No doubt they're good machines with a lot of power, but they can't run the games and programs that i use, so to me macs are inferior to pc's.

They're also a lot more expensive.

You could put windows on it, though that is an added expense.
They're also taking their time in updating the MBP, which is really annoying:P

Your ignorance precedes you arron. Macs have 2 button capabilities. I could give you an extensive history, but basically macs were designed to be personal computers, you basically hold the option button to access right click abilities, which is far easier to do on a lap top than having 2 buttons on the touch pad. If you plug a 2 button mouse into a mac it'll know how to use it without having to install 5 kinds of software on how to use it....like PCs do.

Anyways - Macs used to be the top power horses on the market, now its really a throw up between dual cores and mac processors. Merely because I enjoy the mac's running enviornment better I use a mac for almost everything (programming, photo shop, adobe video, etc) , and I run boot camp windows to play video games and map with a simple click of a button.

I've never heard anyone write/speak like that. It looks just like the customer reviews you find on sites like Newegg or Circuit City .com. the kind of reviews that are over enthusiastic, listing obscure details and making them sound like the best thing ever. Then you scroll down 2 or 3 reviews and find the same review with a few minor differences by a different user. And yes, it would be "sleazy" and "underhanded" for someone to go around starting form topics about mac in order to generate a "buzz".

I like macs but i wish they were more compatible.

Ok ok so they've changed since I last used one. I chould say the the Imacs and everyhing before it suck ass.

Something about how the mouse cursor moves on macs feels really strange to me. Anyone else know what I'm talking about? Its gotta be some combination of the acceleration and the way the tracking works. Also, it is the same on all macs that I've used over many years. Anyways, the mouse movement style is a deal-killer for me. Macs could be as great as what the apple zealots say, and then some, run all the games, etc, but even then I couldn't use one because of the simple mouse tracking style. Gah.

mazemaster, I couldn't agree more. Mouse acceleration has got to be one of the most annoying things in existence. What's it useful for anyway? To make it easier to do precision work when you need but still allow you to move the cursor quickly across the screen?
