Hay folks,

I am looking for some (retail) advertisements, street signs, billboards... stuff like that. Its for my mod (reddawn). Basically I am looking for something that you would expect to see in a city or some advert you would see in a shopping center. Maybe its a Macdonald's add or some law agency add or a car billboard. If you have anything like this, please share it in this thread.

But, I am also looking for some more easter eggy things. So if you have funny cartoons or funny adds, then, also, please, link me or post them right here.

BTW, they can be any size, but try not to make them to large. Try to keep them under at least 1000x1000, otherwise they might get to distorted when they have to be reduced.

Thanks

EDIT: Here is something I found just right now. http://feasties.orcon.net.nz/metaproduct.jpg . Anything like this is perfectly acceptable. But this may come under the easter egg category.

I'd recommend googling "billboard" for some more serious ones.

Add some grunge brushes and it'll be plenty realistic.

Nice mazemaster. The best must be between "Bill Stickers is inoccent" and "this is Sparta", though you'd probably need to have seen 300 to get the Sparta reference.

Natus' would have been perfect if he had a Dr.Zoidberg avatar.

Sorry, A-Style wins.

Although the completely ridiculous actual signs are quite fun too. I can't imagine what I'd think if I just randomly came across that yellow sign showing a giant monster eating the car.

Has anyone ever made a map with ads in it and gotten paid from the companies for it? Companies that sell and distribute computer and gaming related products and services on a larger scale might be interested. Especially if there was some way to implement the ads in more that one map. What about a site where players could upload maps with ads from company A, B and C and then receive an amount of money for every download? The site could take a small cut as well. Reviewers/VIP members/the community could together rate and decide how good the map is, and then this rating could be used to decide how much the creator should have of the pay the site receives from the company per download.

Just imagine de_dust2 with ads from Microsoft or nVidia. I'm sure they'd be willing to pay a fairly nice amount for that.

Is there was a way to update the ads in a map, even if it had already been downloaded, that would be even better. Then different companies could buy ad space for a certain time period in already existing maps and update current ads. Then a more popular map would have a higher prices.

Perhaps somehow the number of players playing different maps every day/week/month could be monitored somehow. This would also facilitate pricing and companies would know more precisely what they're buying.

Perhaps something the relaunch of Snarkpit? Although that might be against policy; if I remember correctly Lep was against placing ads etc on the site?

This turned into a business idea type post, sorry for being a bit off topic.

What do y'all think?

Lep was against, i'm against it  Sorry, adverts suck

Incidentally this was discussed for CS 1.6 in the past if I recall correctly, but nothing came of it? To an extent that "Valve Content Server" was advertising.

Yea, what ever happend there? Are people seeing in-game ads now, I didn't play CS in ages? I would love this to have been a complete failure. Maybe for a billboard in an urban scene. But some Middle East war-scenery with an English Server-Ad on the walls. How lame is this?
Why snark works.

Yeah, that's true, most ads wouldn't be suitable in most areas. And it might not be that fun if maps turned into ad feasts like some websites are.
