Now when I go look at the many fab maps at this fine site I see loads of great textures and people say that "there from the wadfather site" but when I go there and look at their textures it seems like all they have are rock and wood textures. there does'nt seem to be any good lab or techy textures there, what gives?

I don't think many people create their textures entirely in Wally. I imagine text and things will be created in photoshop or something like that...

God I love q.e texture sets. I don't think he ever had a site or even page he would submit them to though, I used to just nab them as he posted them for dl on the CS mapping boards. Haven't been there in a year and a half though.

QE was the reason I began to take texturing seriously... that man was and still is one of the greatest game artists of all time in my eyes.
He did not have a website, but he did have a giant folder, where I found some of his textures and maps. However, the only way to get to them now is to rip the textures from his maps.
He left about a year or so ago for a career in a sound studio (?!) around the same time and for around the same reasons as joesmoe (a famous texture artist as well, but NOT a very good one by today's standards). It's a shame that those two left texture art, taking all of their potential with them, mainly because they felt it didn't pay them enough.

Didn't joesmoe take off after he got basically nothing for texturing cs_office when cs went retail? I remember the rift happening around then. joesmoe was definitely gone a good year or so before q.e left. I got his swan song texture pack lying around somewhere...

Smoe left whining about the fact that he had not recieved enough money for his work in official CS (he got about 1200 dollars in total, not so bad  ), but moreso that CS' leaders had gone more and more behind the scenes. There is a retexture of cs_siege that's still rotting.
