There's one thing I don't get in the hammer editor.

I've heard people saying the numbers when you make a block with the block tool means how much inch the block is.
Now I want to remake my house. I've already done that before but I lost the file.

Anyways, I found out that the walls in our house are 2,45 meter long. So I used a cm to inch converter and they say that will be 96.4565 inch. In short 96.
When I make the wall at exactly that length in the hammer editor, it's way too short.

What am I doing wrong?

That inch to unit thing is misinformation.

For medium scale stuff, like your house, multiply the imperial measurement by 1.3 and you'll be closer.

That's why Valve sets their door textures at 112 when in reality a standard door jamb is 80-82.

It's when you start getting into large scale things that the engine shows its weaknesses, mainly its FOV distortion. Try making a football field or a large big-box store type of thing, it'll turn out to be way too large.. But for a house keep going with the 1.3 generalization

Thanks for your reply.

I get what you mean, and I tried making everything 1.3 x better but the result was everything being too big, so I'll try 1.2 x.

Thanks for your help!

edit: Nevermind, 1.3 x is good, I did something wrong, but that's a long story.

yea one of the oddites of the games is the units.

i believe you should only make things that are horizontal 1.3 times bigger and the verticles standard.

the setback is the player
ingame you are 72 units high and 32 units wide!!!
no matter what unit of measurment you use thats just wierd. that would mean that the player is almost 3 feet wide , thats sumo sized

The 3 foot width isn't measuring the supposed player's waste line, it's measuring from the player's imaginary fingertip to imaginary fingertip as if their arms were splayed out Vitruvian man style.
