as for Orpheus' want to make negative happenings on stupid people, what happened to the old member rating system on the old snarkpit
also, Satchmo has an interesting system where your member status is figured through other members hitting a plus or minus on under your avatar on forum posts

I would love to see a Sarcasm Meter under the Avatar or some place where it can be seen easily so we can tell the level of sarcasm the person is providing in his/her message.

The code for coloured usernames is 90% done. However I am uncomfortable with the idea because changing the colour of a person's name is a usability issue - all links should be the same colour (or at least have some design consistency), else the UI quickly becomes a confusing and unintuitive mess. For this reason I am reluctant to enable the feature.
The member rating system was discussed at length a long time ago. Everyone gave their own ideas and feedback at the time, and it took a hell of a lot of work to code the current system the way people like it.
Therefore I am not prepared to start making huge changes to the way it works. There are 57 million different 'points' systems on various community sites around the web, but if you wanted anything similar to something you've seen elsewhere then I'm afraid you've massively missed the boat as everything was finalised a very long time ago.

Again it's a design and usability decision really. If I start putting lines under some links and not under others then it just adds to the confusion even more than colours. Putting underlines on everything is not something that will look good.
The basics that links should have should be:
1. A consistent colour or visual (underlined, italicised, bold, size etc) difference to normal text, possibly both.
2. A consistent colour and/or visual change on rollover. Where the colour change may not be seen by colourblind users a visual change (underline/italics etc) can be used in addition or as an alternative.
With this site the colours aren't a problem for anyone other than severe monchromats so I chose not to have a visual change on links.
It's a tradeoff between how you want things to look and usability. Since coloured usernames are really nothing more than a cheap gimmick I'm not prepared to sacrifice design/usability for them.
I'm trying to think of something else you could choose a custom colour for... sure there's something we can think of.

How about we add a function to the profile page.. FPS Banana and even steam do this. they give awards, like when you play TF2 you get certain awards for certain things, like the most knife kills. I guess they call them badges. Why not add that to the pit. Earn badges for the most correct answers to issues, the most post, the best use of smileys, the list is endless. We have some great artist ere who I am sure would donate some photoshop time to make these badges. I know I would. It should all be in fun... dont'cha think?
