I have one contest underway.. but with the new Engine update to CSS, I will be having a contest showcasing the changes in the near future, so start thinking of the perfect CSS map you have wanted to create but couldn't, but now can!

A graphics engine update that'll make 25% of people not be able to play the game, and tf2 gameplay that will truly fuck competitive gameplay, woohoo.

People are never happy... Think of it as the bright side, finally a new update again with lots of good stuff like achievements.

CounterStrike could use a few less players.. Way too many e-Thugs out there. As for Competitive game play, don't give two wags of a dogs tail about it.

Achievements are for people who want a bigger e-penis ingame rather then playing the game for fun.

I don't see how that is a good thing.

I don't think achievements are a bad thing. I mean, they don't take anything away from the game right? If anything, don't they add a new level of play for some people? They're personal challenges with labels, plus there's so many of them! I for one, welcome them.

Considering that this whole 'turn the game into tf2' is to GET tf2 players in, then it'll simply wreck the game with idiots that join your server and go 'cn u chng mp 2 achvmtnfrm_spy plz plz plzzz" or idiots that don't play and instead just use your server to level up on their achievments.

Like i said, achievements can and probably will take out every last bit of gameplay on pubs, the only way you would be able to play the game is if you had friends who actually wanna play and don't go "but i suck at css, im gong 2 go ply tf2 insted bai".

The one thing cs:s always had (even through all the hackers and whiners and just plain idiots) was pubs, achievements are going to wreck that.

You have to admit, CS:S was getting more and more boring. It was high time to update the game with a few improvements. You mustn't always see things from the negative side like that, or else you can see everything as a negative thing.

Some people are like that NIB, they can not see the good in anything. Its sad really. I for one welcome the many changes, the update in the engine and tools. Heck, I think a few achievements will spruce CC:S up some. I mean other Shooters before TF2 were doing it, and it made them more fun. Would be cool if they also add unlocks. But if they don't thats cool too.. I do like the many changes. Also the kill cam thing is nice so now I will know where I got shot from, I wonder if I can set the server to fade to black after/or team watch only so you dont get an advantage in death.

But if they DO add unlocks I hope they will bind them to the achievements, and not random drops. It doesn't matter a lot, but I remember TF2 being a lot more fun when you had to get achievements to get new weapons.

Anyways any news of when the update will be released to everyone? I can't wait :D

That is a good idea NIB. I agree they should be tied into the achievements.

I'm sure many people would disagree with us though, I think most players prefer money to buy weapons... Hey why don't they make it so you get money by doing achievements? :D

Edit: Reading this post the second time makes me notice that "money" sounds like I am talking about real life money lol but I mean the in-game cash

I think it would be cool to earn new and better weapons.. you still have to buy them, but now you have the option.

If you introduced new weapons, or made the current ones "unlockables" or both, you'd terribly change the balance of the game. The balance years of tweaking has gained it. These features may be suitable for some franchises, but using unlockables for Counter-Strike just doesn't fit. The game has its own system and that system already rewards players round by round, where they receive money to spend on the next round. Cut-dry and clean. To build an unlockable system, especially one that introduced new weapons into the game, you'd begin to see these weapons striking something quite un-fair in balance. Or changing it all-together

Here you've introduced something that gives a different ability that other players can't achieve, unless they perform the actions or spend the same time achieving them. Achievements are supposed to sponsor actions that encourage a variety in gameplay, or make the game stronger. I've read through the list of achievements and you can find the expected ones like killing enemies with certain weapons, but then some like "Variety Hour" sponsor killing enemies with five different guns in a round. I think if one player wanted to focus on this achievement for a match, that kind of attitude could only make for a healthy round with other players. And with the variety and number of achievements, I don't think there will be a situation where an entire team on a pub server will be shooting for the same achievement.

So, to wrap up what I'm saying: achievements add variety to gameplay, but unlocks will change gameplay altogether, not "spruce it up". Counter-Strike is not a game wanting to be changed, just updated.

Thank you, was just gonna say.

Maybe a rank system like in vegas 2 where you got a armpatch and new outfits if you say, get to seargent rank, then you get a sergeant hat would be nice and acceptable, but stuff like weapons is overdone, get's boring, and it's not fun getting shot by somebody with a noob cannon while you are trying to rank up so you can shoot back with something other then a bb gun.

I will never understand the massive appeal around these stupid 'ranks' or 'unlockables', cs:s has a great system as is, you get funds from whoever hires you to buy basic weapons, and when you complete a objective you get more money, how is this any different from the normal achievements, minus the extreme unbalance?

No your right that would be a better way to go about it, uniform changes to show your bad ass, and not because of some weapon you got over the peeps still trying to level up. I just want to see new weapons over all, for everyone to use.
