I've just been remisicing about the sounds of Half-Life, the vent smashing, crate smashing chaos and I've realised that I really would like to play some again. Does anyone else just find the sights and sounds of this game really addictive?

Yay, verily! Same here. I had a Half-life craving attack about two weeks ago when I was on a train in Germany (around 22:00) and pulled out my laptop to pass some time playing some games. I first thought to play Castle Wolfenstein, and then remembered the context I was in, so I opened Half-Life (which I always keep installed ;)) and started playing that. I had just bought new earphones with a rich bass, so the mp-5 sounded especially juicy!

There's just something about that game's sounds that might have added to its uniqueness and originality. After talking here, I think I might man-up, and finally buy myself a copy of Half-Life Source to give me an excuse to play it again :p

Haha, yeah buddy :) The only thing with me is, I don't like playing the old levels again, I like to play new content with the same theme. I haven't actually played it for about a year now, but at the moment it is vacation time from college until September so I've found myself with less to do and more time to use up! So if I've not got any extra hours work or anything I can definately fit some time in, I'm looking into mods at the moment, gonna feel weird firing it up again!

Another thing is, I am not really a gamer either, I got into Half-Life when I was about 13 and have only played a few other games between then when I was into the whole gaming thing, but if one game keeps me coming back it is indeed Half-Life. Gonna look on Moddb now I think!

I regularly have those cravings. About a few weeks ago, I played through the entire Half-Life(old WON version too), then straight after, I played Half-Life 2, then Episode 1, which I finished yesterday, and today, Episode 2. Kinda bad considering Uni starts on the 19th again, and I really should start going over some physics and chemistry.

If you haven't finished the game on Hard then there's no excuses not to play the game again.

If I had to play through Half-Life again I think I'd rather play through the original Half-Life because it was the authentic 1998 experience. In Half-Life Source the water, lighting and models have been pimped and the AI is a bit different too so I don't know...

But Half-Life Source IS an excuse to play Half-Life again!

Half Life 1... my second favorite game (after Gothic 2)

I have played it SO many times, more than all the members together. (Ok that's a joke but I have played it really a LOT :D)

Because the difficulty Hard was too easy for me (not trying to do cool or something lol, I'm honest) I began playing the game on Hard and tried to complete it without dying. It wasn't so hard actually, I was just playing very careful.

However, there was a huge ladder at the chapter with the Tentacle monster, but I wanted to jump down a little bit and grab the ladder again (you know what I mean) to skip some time. But er... I didn't manage to fall back against the ladder so I fell to my death :flail:

I'll try it again sometime later :)

Edit: Oh and yes, Half Life Source is awesome. Everyone is negative about it but that's bullshit.

However, if you want to get that nostalgic feeling again at its maximum, you should play the original HL1.

I've just finished playing this mod that I downloaded yesterday:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/slums-2

It is some good 'vanilla' HL2 fun. It doesn't have a story but the combat and environment is very HL2 like which is good when you just want to play some HL2! In comparison to some mods which change the gameplay and other things.

It felt good playing the old game again, like when you get back in your old car after you've given it to your sister or something.
