Need quick help (must create story for a city for school)

Hi,

We had to make a non-existing city for a school project. That's all done and finished, but now we have to come up with a background story.

Does there happen to be someone around here who has a few tips or some neat ideas to include in the story? Anything is welcome. FYI the city is named Khorinis.

There was a disease outbreak and the original infection ground zero was quarantined. The infection was originally misdiagnosed as Crohn's disease ... THEY WERE WRONG!

The inflammation did not subside in victims and eventually caused death ... and then resurrection. The outbreak of zombism caused the collapse of the known world. Over time, people adapted and learned to survive with the food chain rebalanced.

It's now a century later, the town has evolved in names, now called Khorinis and is a shining beacon in the renewed efforts to reestablish our dominance on the planet. This city is the hub of life and people with a specific life long job spread out across the planet building new cities and spreading from there. Cliques form of certain job types. There are groups of art and history proliferators who find and guard past human events and knowledge. There's groups of tradesmen who go out and teach survivors new techniques for getting shit done. There are hunters who assign themselves a lifelong pledge to protect their given traveling group, they're the best at what they do and what they do is kill fools who try to eat you. And there are medics who are beginning to re-tap into human understanding of medicine.

Are you surprised it has zombies in it?

OK. OK.

There's lots of possibilities ... uh ...

#1 Entire city could be part of somebody's imagination.

#2 The city could be the home grounds for a crime fighting super hero whom has an irrational fear of Styrofoam and his arch nemesis owns the peanut packing plant. He can learn that gasoline can conquer his fears ... because it makes Styrofoam melt and he can defeat his nemesis with millions of dollars of property damage and everything is all melty and burny.

#3 Could make a story from the perspective of the city as if it were a living organism and aware of the parasites living within it. It has an endless disgust at their existence ... like if you had herpes ... inside you.

#4 You can make a Cop Dramedy about a police force that is allowed to stop crime ... as long as it doesn't spend more than $22.50 per incident ... as there is many financial strains on the city due to the mayor's crack addiction and his diversion project of building an Indy circuit around the city.

#5 Aliens fucking blow it up and then Cthulu shows up and they play checkers with the building remnants

#6 A serialization about a private detective who is completely accepting of criminal behavior, but is extremely suspicious of normal folk. There could be one instance where he sees a husband bang and murder his secretary and then tells the wife, "You's gots nothing to worries about", and another instance where he files a police report about a woman giving her daughter a hug after playing in the park. The cops should place bets on him.

#7 A story about a psychopath judge on the circuit court who gives light sentences to all guilty violent criminal offenders so he can later track them down and fulfill his murderous needs. And also takes under the table payments for sending all minors to a privately ran detention facility so that they may become screwed up and turn into violent offenders later in life. He uses the money to save animal shelters.

#8 Could make a disjointed story about a second hand item and all the fucked up people who've owned it. Something innocuous like ... an umbrella.

#9 Story about a local TV news anchor who grows into his 50s and finds out he has a long lost son from a college romance. And he's awesome at ping pong so he takes a sabbatical with his new found son so he can play in youth ping pong tournaments ... but due to his journalistic ties, when they enter North Korea the anchor gets detained and put into a maximum security prison.

Can't find something there you like, I can't really help you with the meager 5 minutes I spent typing that all up.

#10. A Taco Bell worker discovers he has telepathic connections with everyone who eats the food he's prepared and sets out on a life long journey of changing their lives for the better ... by informing them he gave them salmonella. He ends up finding his soul mate who is the daughter of one of his patrons he's sickened ... the father (it's her father) ends up dying and there's a huge strain on their relationship and it's all tangled and not normal. Possible ending: he sacrifices himself saving the father through different powers that were never explained or mentioned prior to that point.

#11. A dude breaks out of prison while on chain gang duty. Stumbles into your city and through a HILARIOUS set of events becomes the town's little league coach. The rest of the story is spent by him growing closer do a divorced mother with has a son on his team. She makes him want to get his act straight. Eventually, the police find out where he is ... and the lead investigator is her ex-husband, OH NO. Through some nonsensical random events about a drug cover-up and the dude snitching, everything is solved ... and he punches the ex-husband in the face. The boy ends up looking up to him as a father figure. NOTE: You must travel back to the 1980s for this to work.

#12. A rock band is on tour. On their way to their next show date, their bus breaks down in your city. The city appears dilapidated in various ways and there's NOBODY there. They stay in a hotel ... which is eerie, because it's empty. The following day they awaken and everything seems OK, there are children playing outside ... but what's this ... there's ONLY children outside (:O). There are no adults in town. When questioning the children where they can get the bus repaired and ... where all the damn adults are they only respond ... "Mother took care of them, silly" and they're "WTF!?". As they trek the city they begin to notice plants growing every-fuck-where into giant plant tentacles around buildings ... some shit happens ... ends up, a commit crashed into the city and released a plant alien thing that ate all the adults and assimilated the children to do her bidding (they helped kill the adults). Now the band has to fight her the only way they can ... WITH A ROCK CONCERT. The sound of screeching electric guitars happens to be at the same harmonic frequency of the base substance the alien is made out of ... so they solo and rock their way to destroying the evil alien threat. When the children reawaken from the mind control (did I mention that part?) they are sad, SO THE BAND MAKES THEM GROUPIES! And, of course, one of the children needs to keep a piece of tentacle in secret in their bag ... how else can you make a sequel?

#13. A drama about a Mayor who is a publicly known vampire and has a speech impediment. After many years of supportive community members there is a missing child scandal and the story is about his descent into madness because of this crazy city until he lashes out at his staff. It's a critical drama about the deconstruction and destruction of a man of power ... who happens to be dead.

#14. He's the baddest cop on the force. Smooth mother fucker with the highest arrest record in the history of the city has multiple accommodations and awards. That is until he's teamed up with an unlikely partner, Dewy. Dewy is another badass cop ... on paper ... in person he's a pussy. Jance (that's his name) wants to beat his ass until he finds out Dewy's secret to his immaculate record ... He's a werewolf. That's it ... just run with it.

#15. A side street truck cook on 5th and Washington tells stories to anybody who'll listen ... he tells stories from the beginning of the city, stories from 200 years ago. Everyone thinks he's full of shit. One of his regular customers is a journalist for a failing paper. He begins to publish the ridiculous stories in his column and the paper picks up in sales. When it reaches its peak the journalist receives an email about how he's a hack and he's just passing off historical events as new fiction. Curious and confused he goes to archives and unravels a very old mystery ... there has always been a food cart on 5th and Washington ... and it looks like the cook. When confronting the cook the journalist realizes it's not his family business ... the cook is immortal ... he elaborates and explains that all service workers are immortal, they're part of an ancient race that humanity is branched off of. You could probably toss in some ninjas into this one to beef it up.

#16. Western in modern time ... and a scientist in the community invents a time machine that causes time bubbles everywhere where people randomly age or grow younger. It also begins bringing things back that used to be there ... like dinosaurs! And death machines from WAY in the future. It'll be awesome!

Alright, I'm feeling kinda tapped. Maybe I'll have more tomorrow.

I'll have to be honest to say that I actually meant a background story, like how the city has started, and how it became bigger etc. But I think I wasn't too clear there But it's not a problem, I can use these story's as "side stories" of things that have happened in the city. Very useful actually

If anything, it was particularly entertaining to read such a random assortment of story proposals. Were you a writer in a previous life? -Cause this feels very creative on your part... But a programmer has to be.

OK, back-story for the city ...

#1: Long ago there was a meteor shower (of some sort, it can be comets and shit, doesn't matter, they gotta hit the earth though ... or WHATEVER planet this is on)

The surface is bombarded with debris from space. There's microscopic life in the debris, not necessarily intelligent, but they want to connect and stay in a rigid structure (want in the same way a molecule "wants" to steal an electron). They form structures that resemble buildings.

Hundreds of years later, people move in. Now it's a city. AND it can regenerate from giant tank shell holes. AWESOME! Or plasma weapons. AWESOMER!

If you want to go one step further. They could be a little intelligent and communicate as a large neural net and make global decisions about who stays and who goes. And they could abduct people RIGHT OUT OF THEIR HOME (because ... they are the home) and break them down to build more city. Creepy.

People could also be abductees from other planets with wiped memories in their little closed off test facility that's an intelligent living alien city.

#2: It's made out of cards on a table top built by a 6 year old who is "God". All the inhabitants think they're alive, but are really just plastic figures. Very Rod Sterling, I know.

#3: The city is an ancient ark of man, made so that we, as a species, could survive the ultimate climate change. Samples from all life on Earth is held in the ark to withstand the centuries of disarray. Once the planet has recycled itself the eternal systems in the ark begin bringing man back by growing them out of samples and teaching them and such. Over generations small communities of humans are back and ready to get back to ... living on the planet, I guess.

All this talk of crazy city back-stories reminds me of one movie in particular, "Dark City"

Made in 1998, it has Kiefer Sutherland, and Jennifer Connelly in it. It's a good sci-fi crazy concept type of film. -And yes as the title hints, its a very 'dark' film (not a lot of light).
