I have a new PC. But I still don't have a screen and a mouse. And I writing this post using the home PC. If you want to see the new PC check out this album (if you have a Facebook account): http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=31191977&l=e272794a40&id=1482953357

My new PC has only 3 fans: one for the power supply, one for the CPU and one for the VGA. But there are two places on the box where I can place a fan.

My question is: which are the most quiet average fans, and how should I place them on the box?

If possible, one blowing in directly onto your vid, one blowing out directly adjacent to your cpu.

You come in here posting about cooling fans, and leave your map thread untouched. Odd priority system you have. :/

You want fans that are the appropriate size (will state what you need with your case manual or you can find it online). In general case fans are 120mm.

You probably want some four pin fans, so you can use software control (check to see if your motherboard supports it first) if you can't use those, then you can get some 3 pin fans, but make sure you get one that has variable control and not temperature control. I've found that the temperature sensors on the fans are inaccurate to the actual state of the PC.

As for the type of fan, past that, if you want LEDs or something, that's up to you, but you do want a fan with plenty of ball bearings, generally the more it has the quieter it is.

As for how you place them in your case, you need airflow. So, one in, one out. It makes sense to put the out where the air will be hottest (next to the components) and in where it's coolest (away from the components)

You do NOT want to have both blowing in or out. If both are blowing in, it will just heat the air and sit there with no escape. And having them both blow out turns your computer into a pressure boiler (no air to heat up)

You want to read the fans documents carefully so you know which way is which. You can also tell when they're on, if there's a strong wind current then your hand is on the "out" side of the fan, if there's a faint current, it's on the "in" side of the fan.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I'll tell'ya what you don't want is the led and fan speed regulator on the same button. My machine was getting hot and I couldn't figure out why since the fans are fairly quiet I hadn't realized that I had slowed my intake fan down with the led brightness button/knob. I sometimes get annoyed with the lights and turn them off or down. It's something to do with my motion sickness thing. For some reason the lights seem to reflect off my flat screen and bother my eyes more than other times. Yeah, I could put the machine on the floor but I hate kicking it. Even an accidental kick can break shit.

If possible, set the fans to self adjust with the machines need.

i.e. software control using a 4-pin fan >_>

You're doing weird again. I was reaffirming your post. You had the right of it. My fans are controlled by the motherboard, but one of the side panel fans has an LED array inside it. If is controlled via a knob on the front panel. IMO its a serious design flaw but since I am now aware of it I can avoid any issues with it turning my fan down low.
