Has anyone heard about Dead Island or seen the trailer?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZqrG1bdGtg

It's an open world zombie game in first person with a focus on melee combat, up to 4 player co-op. The game looks quite impressive, environments look nice and the zombies are modeled in layers meaning all sorts of cool injuries can be inflicted on the zombies, visually a step towards soft body physics, wouldn't you say Crono?

Makes me wonder when the zombie game phase is going to pass though. :scared:

It's OK, it can use its own thread.

I've liked Techland for awhile ... they're still working off the engine base they made in the 90s, which is how you're suppose to do it! (Built off Java too)

And their games are getting progressively better made. Chrome, Specforce, Call of Juarez, Bound in Blood, and now this.

This has been in the works for, seriously, like 6 years.

But, it's important to note, this is a CG trailer. I wonder how the game looks now, though, in action.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

You know Aaron, when you talked about changing your name I thought you'd be picking one more..... Better. :hee:

Why didn't you go all the way out on that limb and pick "Master" or "President Aaron" or "Gandhi"

No really, I'm not laughing at you.. Well, yeah I am. Its OK, we'll get over it.

This thread has nothing to do with Crysis, it's about Dead Nation, move your post to the recently found thread or your questions thread, or make a new one, I'm not going to specifically respond about it here outside of showing my annoyance at your thread commandeering.

Update: Dick move, editing your post.

Aw Orph don't make me feel unconfident with it I already had mixed feelings about it in the first place :( Le Chief is going to be my new gaming name and considering everyone else here has gaming names I chose to use that instead of something like "aaronz". I was considering "Azz" because that's what some people call me but Crono said it looks to much like "ass" and since he mentioned it I can't shake it off anymore.

Least the name matches my avatar. :|

That's interesting, it looked like in game footage to me. Maybe the trailer was designed as to not feel too different from the game?

You know what? I don't think I will. Your annoyance about a question concerning a 4 year old game just isn't important enough to worry over.

Le Chiffre (:p), it's obviously pre-rendered. There's like subsurface scattering on the skin.

It might be a target rendering ... but it's an initial trailer, also, and those are pretty much always pre-rendered.

Sorry couldn't resist ^^

Back to the game though, it would be interesting to see how the combat works considering their focus on melee combat. Maybe it will involve a bit of button mashing, or there will be some sophisticated damage system to make it interesting, hopefully it wont be repetitive.

I honestly don't see how but.. If you had concerns about a new name you coulda asked us. We'd have helped.

I kinda like Aaroneous, or even Aariator or Aarondipity. Assuming you wanted to keep your true name in some form.

These names we pick are just place holders, but they do have some value. If you ever want to be taken seriously, not that we don't since we know you, but I mean taken seriously by people who have no close association with you, you're gonna have to do better than "Chief"

You'd have been far better off with "Chief Almostamapper" or AlmostaChief"

Anywho's, we'll get used to whatever you pick. You'll always hold a place in our hearts as "Almostaname" :outtahere:

Thanks Muhnay I take that as a compliment. :hee:

I've never been good with remembering names, let alone coming up with them. I did manage to generate the name 'coommamajarra' for my pet axolotl though. I'm pretty happy with that, the name suits him 100%.

They're two different creatures. A mudpuppy is a particular family of salamander while an axolotl is the larvae form of the tiger salamander.

Axolotl's are actually very fascinating creatures. They're unable to undergo metamorphosis and transform into salamanders so they stay in their larvae form their whole life and as a result have a lot of unusual traits such as they have both lungs and gills, can regrow body parts and vital organs and have slow metabolisms so they live a long time, up to 15 years on average. Coommamajarra is almost 8.

Did you even bother to look up mud puppy? They're real critters. We used to play with them as kids.

Why do you guys gotta shit on every thread that could be cool? Goddammit.
We get it, you don't like each other, can we move on?

I'm really hoping the game isn't just like Dead Rising or something with no character depth.

Also, I totally would not get in that pool:

I'm just about fucking tired of being sucked into the vortex to tell you the truth. Whats worse, you cannot even seem to see when/where it starts each time.

Is it supposed to be my fault somehow that he cannot even seem to be able to read a one sentence post without going whacky?

Seriously Adam, if you cannot help, remain out of it. I realize its not really your place to do anything, but you're not helping either.

I still cannot fathom how mud puppies equates to racism. I'm sorry but I'm really touchy about racist innuendo. I absolutely despise racism.

Ohh.... her body looks like an old plaster wall and his body looks like it's made of plastic :/ And you can see some sort of seam on the guy's face and a reflection/shadow glitch in the water near her leg and they publicly released this :uncertain:
