Square-Enix owned IO Interactive announced the fifth game in the Hitman series this morning. Titled Hitman Absolution, it finds the titular Agent 47 betrayed by his agency and on the run from international law enforcement.

In a press release forwarded this morning, IO also announced that Hitman Absolution will use Glacier 2, a new engine from IO, and that the game will be "familiar and yet significantly different experience from other Hitman Games," according to Tore Blystad, the game's director.

No release date has been set for Hitman Absolution.

I could never get into Hitman, although I felt I should have.

I love the Splinter Cell series, and played all of them except the last one. But I tried Hitman, and it was too wonkey for me. The controls and scheme setup didn't make sense to me. however like Splinter Cell, I did appreciate the setting and game mechanics. Just not my choice of interface.

Good to hear it's still going though :)

Try Blood Money it's the most polished.

The newer Splinter Cell is much more action-movie espionage than straight stealth. But the stealth is still there, just not as much of a pain in the ass.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

True, it's a good game actually, the gameplay is like Uncharted.

I have to agree that the control scheme on Hitman had some issues, and wonky is a good word to describe them. But I still rather enjoyed the games, they sit proudly on my game shelf. ;)

Oh I also agree Splinter Cell.. bad ass game, I loved it. Heck I may have to reinstall it and play it, been long enough it should be new again for me. I didn't get the last couple in the series, where he was more civilian styled.. may have to check into getting them.

Don't get me wrong, I actually think Conviction is the best Splinter Cell game to date. I just remember a bunch of people getting their panties in a twist because the stealth wasn't still wonky like Theif or Tenchu.

I don't know whether I like Conviction more than the other games, but it is the only one I've played until the end of the story mode. Though I played the 3rd Splinter Cell a lot in co-op mode on the original Xbox. That was really awesome I remember.
