I was utterly flabbergasted over the fact that our site still hasn't started a Minecraft thread. Then I thought, "well they were too busy actually playing it!" -Doh :rolling:.

Well anyhow, I'd like to know how many of you here actually play this cheesy addicting game, and what do you do in it? Do you play multiplayer or stick to your redstone in singleplayer?

Either way, whether you love it, hate it, or have no interest in it, I imagine if you've been on the internet and talking about games, then a game like Minecraft has probably entered your discussion at some point.

It's big, like 13 million people big. It's still in Beta and will even start its own annual convention this year in Las Vegas, but for how big it's gotten, it's hard to get across the fascination and intense devotion fans and players of the game have.

It's being developed by an Indie Swedish games developer Mojang who are updating it regularly and selling discounted Beta keys to fund the game until it's released.

What is Minecraft? Well, like I said it's hard to explain why it's fun, but the basic mechanics are this: you the player exist in a procedurally generated world and have to survive. There are monsters that come out at night, and there are tools you can craft with the resources at hand to defend yourself and develop your own buildings and things. Every block in the game is destructible and collectable. That's about it. It's a game meant to sponsor emergent gameplay, and multiplayer is where it really shines IMO.

You and many other people (I've seen servers with over 100 people on them) are digging, building and trading your stuff. People will collaborate to design and build massive structures that pay tribute to their favorite piece in history or fictional work. People design skyscrapers, massive war ships, huge castles, tiny towns, deep underground caverns, and all sorts of things that constantly surprise me.

Why I'm posting now? I've bought and played the game since February of this year and have had my shares of fun, but now I've started a server with some friends and have been playing these last few weeks before my last year of school started with fury. And so basically I'm using this thread to not only just talk about M.C. but also just to make a plug for my server which I'd welcome anyone here for sure to come check out.

Here's some pics of our town and part of the world in an isometric view below that:

We actually have several settlements, and we play survival mode (where everything built has to be mined and collected first; no cheating in other words). I'd welcome anyone who wants to join, but I'm gonna limit the IP address to those that are interested enough to actually have an account here on the Pit and Personal Message me about joining.

Feel free to post your own screenshots of your own buildings and structures in MC and also to make a plug for your favorite server, I'd gladly come visit! :hee:

Our server will stay up, but I must admit my time will dwindle for these next 30 weeks of school. So I honestly don't expect to make a visit on my server very often here on out, but we still have plenty of regulars who do! So ya, there's usually activity going on. But regardless if you'd still would like to at least visit, you're more than welcome.

Let's talk Minecraft! :hee:

I've played it for a very short while, but couldn't continue because of my arm injury (rage)

But sometimes I go to a friend's house and see him playing it there.

I believe it is very addicting, but what I first noticed was that it is very easy to escape from the zombies in the night (I thought that if you'd make a house then they'd try to break the walls etc, but it seems they don't... unless I am doing something wrong) and there is no way to 'complete' it. < Correct me if I'm wrong.

But I would totally play it if I could!

One thing that I think is cool about minecraft is, it doesn't keep players coming back through gamebling-esque addiction techniques (WoW), but rather, because the player gets to express their creativity.

And that's pretty neat.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Ya, they're not really a big threat, as they're slow and don't deal much damage, but the game isn't about escaping danger all the time. It's more like thrive in the world and make sure you're protected at night with lights (zombies or other enemy NPCs otherwise known as 'mobs' in the game) will attack you and spawn anywhere where the light level is mostly dark.

The only creature at the moment in the game that will actually destroy blocks is the creeper. Solely named for the fact that it doesn't make a noise until it's right up on you right before it explodes. It will destroy any adjacent blocks or rather 'break' the blocks. and deal damage to you.

Ya the game is an open sandbox kinda world, where you make your own rules I suppose. Make your own game and adventure out of it. The base goal I suppose is to survive. The only penalty when you die is that you drop all your stuff, and you respawn and have to go retrieve it. But other than that, I think the game plays like how you think it would. When your health is low, eating food replenishes it; gravity hurts; sheep drop wool; smelt iron ore to make iron ingots and use them to make iron tools; stone tools mine faster than wooden ones; so on and so forth. It's a pretty straight-forward game, and there's so much people are doing with it. It's pretty fascinating.

I think it's rather humorous that no matter how my schedule is something always comes up when I decide to get back into either mapping, or multiplayer in this particular game.

Any other game and I have more free time than I can fill, but as soon as I commit to any particular server, even my own, countless obstacles appear in my life to deter me from even using my computer.

I wonder sometimes...
Now remember kids. Asking questions is a good way to get censored by the government.

It only gets worse as you age, if you're any kind of a responsible person that is.

The best things in life, aren't things.
